Description
I keep seeing these awesome scenes with a lone tree, and wishing I could find a tree in such a desolate place so I can take a picture. Never happened, or if it did, I never noticed. I finally decided to make one. Made in Terragen. Terrain is the Picos mountains in Spain. Postwork in Paint Shop Pro.Related content

This is incredible! Do you mind if I use this background for a Chatlands game? ^_^

I like this design a lot... would you mind if I used the image as a base for a wallpaper I'd like to make? The simple coloring and the way it's laid out on the page are both exactly what I'm looking for.

stark, simple and perfect
...the beginning of something?
your combination of 3D with a very graphic-design 2D sensibility makes for a serene scene
yes, it's a new genre of art

Thank you. It's finished the way it is. It's what I wanted to do.

To clarify, it feels finished to me as well. I meant that "Tree" could be the beginning of an animation, movie, storybook etc.

there's something about this one that I can't just quite put my finger on. Between the soft yellow tones of the sky, the black sharpness of the tree, and the smooth surface of the sand, cascading over each other, the solitary-ness of the tree (i keep typing treet, for some reason, LOL, being random)....it really conveys both a sense of loneliness tempered with happy colors.

Thank you! I love your description. It's a good interpretation. Being alone can be a cheerful state of mind.

it's funny, i was talking with my advisor at school a few weeks ago, and we were talking about that very topic.
there are those people who are perfectly capable of entertaining themselves and not freaking out when they are alone. she mentioned her brother who went on a trip with his wife to their family cabin, and while up there, away from all his friends, he literally freaked out, because it was just him and his wife. He missed the constant chatter, activity, and presence of other people. He needed those people there, because it was the first time he had really been alone with his thoughts and who he was...so stuck out in the woods, away from civilization, and freaking out...not a good combo.
Thank goodness I'm independent, and don't always have to follow the crowd. I'm perfectly happy going home on a friday night, curling up with a good book, and reading. There are times where it's good to go out and go to a party, but it's not really my thing, and not something I want to do every single weekend night, like some of my classmates.

I love being alone, whether it's at home so I can get a lot done, or out in the wilderness someplace so I can enjoy it without being distracted. I can walk or drive wherever I want and take pictures, and I don't have to worry about where my companion wants to go. I feel sorry for people who can't stand to be alone.

The atmosphere is so peaceful, meditative and it could be very relaxing just by looking at this picture.
Really beautiful. The warm tones seems to calm everything down + the peaceful white expanse...
Ooooo another

This tree is not alone, because let us feel the beauty and peace, like an meditation about itself... the peaceful we can feel deeper and you could bring me the light of your lovely feelings
THE PURENESS OF THAT COLOR
So soft the time where I travel
And my look is lost it in the color,
My lips covers the kiss,
Where I lost myself in the desert of loveβ¦
A tree, silhouette from desire
In the silence where I can drink my will
For be able t o break free in you
The silhouette from dance of life that I review
And be alived in the soft heat of truth
About all the musical pureness can love.
The tree where I grew and learned
How to love the nature, abandon me
With all the pureness of everything that I lived
And what I am, for can be able to recreat
And reborn in the magic time of love that I feltβ¦
The pureness of the color with that you hug me,
The truth from the love that you enlace me
And make me feel free from the pain that want to stay
And I refused would be able to captivate such energy.
The light that arrived me from your chest,
The truths of a perfect time
Where we can share the ramifiction s of the wind
In a learning time, the intention
To launch free the shout of the freedom
Where I keep my sickness from past
But, without wanting to abandon me
Because the pureness of your color
I want feel free to stay on meditationβ¦
(PORTUGUESE)
NA PUREZA DA COR
TΓ£o suave o tempo onde viajo
E meu olhar perde-se na cor,
Meus lΓ‘bios percorrem o beijo,
Onde me perdi no deserto do amorβ¦
Uma Γ‘rvore, silueta do desejo
Em silΓͺncio com que bebo a vontade
De me poder em ti libertar
A silueta da dança da vida revejo
E revivo num calor suave a verdade
De toda a pureza musical amar.
A Γ‘rvore onde cresci e aprendi
A amar a natureza, a abandonar-me
Com pureza diante de tudo o que vivi
E sou para que pudesse recriar-me
E renascer no tempo do amor que sentiβ¦
A pureza da cor com que me abraças,
A verdade do amor com que me enlaças
E libertas toda a dor que queria ficar
E eu sempre recusei tal energia poder cativar.
A luz que me chegou do teu peito,
As verdades de um tempo perfeito
Onde se partilham ramificaçáes do vento
Num tempo de aprendizagem, o intento
De soltar livre o grito da liberdade
Onde resguardo a saudade
Sem nela me querer abandonar
Porque a pureza da tua cor quero meditarβ¦

No. The tree was a gift. It was added in Paint Shop Pro. Terragen will have that capability eventually, but v.2 isn't out yet. I'm not on the beta testing team.

Generally speaking, Terragen doesn't do it for me. This, however... I love its sparseness, the color of the "sky," the still empty feel of it (I like my solitude, too ).
all the way!

PatGoltz In reply to dana-martinez [2006-04-18 07:11:37 +0000 UTC]
Thanks so much! And thanks for the fav! You can make sparse scenes in Terragen if you want. A lot depends on the terrain and where you put the camera. Here are a couple more of mine you might like: [link] [link] Also, do you like waterscapes with no land?

Well, I have one, here: [link] I have other ideas in the works, but haven't done them yet.
Some people make some very nice waterscapes. Hang around. You'll find them.

Hmm. I'm sure this is some bizarre psychosis on my part, but just water like that, leading off into the horizon, makes me very nervous. I need land in sight, or else I start feeling like I'm bobbing in the middle of the ocean like shark bait - and it's getting dark!!

PatGoltz In reply to dana-martinez [2006-04-18 15:53:56 +0000 UTC]
Well, I apologize for that. So you should stick to stark land scenes. Hope you're OK.

Well it would be rather unlikely that a tree that healthy looking would be in that seemingly desert surroundings, but I think that is part of what makes the picture appealing. You definitely have the minimalist approach perfected here.

Thank you and thanks for the fav! The way I envisioned it, the ground is covered with snow in the winter and grass in the summer. There have been lots of pictures like that, so I know trees do that.
