Description After victory in WW2, a stronger France is able to keep its global influence and power than in OTL. This stronger France has decisively played a mayor role or influence in many regions of the world in these two decades.

In the Middle East France kept control of its mandates over Syria until 1947 and Lebanon until 1950. Syria didn't have enough time to organize an effective army to attack Israel and Lebanon still under French Mandate didn't join the war. Without a severe threat from the north, Israel was able to concentrate its efforts against Jordan and Egypt taking over Gaza, Jerusalem and the Etzion Bloc.

In Southeast Asia the Indochina War reached a dead point. By 1950 Laos, Cambodia got their independences, Vietnam was partitioned between the communist north and the capitalist south, altough independent South Vietnam is still under a heavy French influence. At the same time France helped the Netherlands to keep the Eastern Dutch Indies under their control. France returned its indian territories to the Republic of India except for the city of Pondycherry which has been leased for 30 years (until year 1992).

Africa has been the most changed continent in this TL.
The victory of the British-French-Israeli Alliance over Egypt during the Suez War was a major blow to the anti-colonialist movements in Africa. Many African Independences were delayed until 1962-1964 and yet these countries are still heavily influenced by either Britain or France.
France has kept control over Djibuti, Madagascar, the Comores, Mauritius and Gabon.
Algeria has been the center of severe political tensions. A referendum is planned for 1966 to determine if Algeria should keep it's status as a department or Independence (there are rumours about a partition plan).

Metropolitan France has recovered from the war, it has kept it's status as the 4th world power and it's the leading force in mainland Western Europe.

Why Katanga is separate?

After the fall of Belgium Britain and France occupied the Belgian Congo. Britain controlled Katanga and carved it from the rest of the Congo for its own benefit.
