Description
A very old drawing. I created it for a school work many years ago (I was about 15). It's a portrait of the greatest Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa.Fernando Pessoa is the extreme example of what may be the essentially modern kind of poet: the objective introvert. None has more consistently tried to find his poems impersonal. He accepted the dividedness of a human self so completely that he did something unique: wrote poetry under four names - his own and three 'heteronyms' (not pseudonyms): they are imagery poets with real poems in them. Pessoa was (at least) four poets in one: Alberto Caeiro, Ricardo Reis, Alvaro de Campos and himself; each strongly distinct from the others.
I strongly recommend reading "The Book of Disquiet"

That is a great idea, wonderful. That's a good choice in poems also.
If you like poetry, you should check out Rainer Maria Rilke, he's my favorite poet, and a great advice-giver. you'll see, maybe

I've heard about Rainer Maria Rilke, although I've never read his poetry. I'll check it out, certainly. Thank you for the advice.
I must find some time to read your poems. I haven't been on DA lately. My time is so limited. I'll read them as soon as possible. I love poetry.

Ah! Fernando Pessoa... Adoro simplesmente.

I love Pessoa. My father introduced me to his poetry. ( My father was a great poet too).
It's amazing how Fernando Pessoa inspired so many portuguese painters and ilustrators. He was, for sure, a great personality. His marked physical caracteristics caught my attention too.
Thank you!

At my local bookstore I found a volume of works by
Fernando Pessoa, all translated from Port.
I did not purchase the book--Id rather start
with his English poetry--but I did read much
of his biography. He is very interesting and
extreme to say the least, a real artist. It seems
he sublimated his psychological
problems in poetry. They say he is one of the best
poets of the 20th century. Most of his works
were not published until after his death--some
only as late as 10 years ago. They say he left
over 25,000 manuscripts! I would look forward
to reading a full-length authoritative
biography of him.

The colors and pattern of the image strike me!
I like the poem very much (maybe you would like my poem titled, "Alone Behind the Wheel". I assume the poet wrote in Portuguese. I do not know Portuguese, and I get a strong sense the poem is translated--probably a direct translation.
I would have worded some of it differenty in English. But no matter. I get the idea of the poem. I wil have to look that poet up. & WHo knows, get a Portuguese-ENglish dicitonary!

Hi! Thank you so much. In fact, the poem was originally written in English. Fernando Pessoa lived in South Africa during his adolescence. There are more of them. I'm sure you'll like his poetry. For me, the best portuguese poet.
In my opinion, traslating a poem can really ruin it. That's why I choose this one.
I'm sure I'll like your poetry. I have already been at your gallery. I like you poetry indeed. Was a very quick visit though cause I'm really busy at work. I'll put you on my Devwatch. I'll return there as soon as I can. Thank you so much for the kind words.
