I never would have guessed this was digitally colored.

easier than mixing paint-I take the greyscale art scan andΒ  set the layer above that onto color mode- that way you retain all the physicality of the traditional paint

Yeah, that's what I do too. Do you use the simulated Photoshop paint brushes for color?

PaulAbrams In reply to ThereisNoDeath [2013-11-02 00:36:49 +0000 UTC]

no-I use a regular hard round brush- all the texture Β comes from the original painting in acrylic( on bristol paper in this case)

Oh, I see. So the original painting is just black acrylic and pencils?

yes, except Β I use Β burnt umber, mars black and white acrylics, then scanned it in gryscale Β - that way the original work holds it own as a painting that can be sold or, if I keep it, hung on the wall

That's clever! I don't keep much of my own original work, and what I do keep is usually shoved in a big box somewhere upstairs. By the way, if you hadn't already guessed, I'm Ray. I sent you the link to my DeviantArt account a while ago but I wasn't sure if you'd noticed.

I really like the color choices of his armor and sword.Β  Reminds me of a pearlescent paint job on a sports car.Β  Very cool!

thanks- funny you should say that because i'd just checked out a local custom car shop and loved the candy apple paint job he'd on a 54 Chevy

Very different and bold styling, curious, successful pose, great position of the figure, good design of the armor and expression.
