Description My last post (Abstract shape 3) has been through endless changes and endless renders to arrive at what we have here now. I'm fairly happy with this, just a few things I can see that need tweaking but on the whole I like it. All made in Cinema 4D.

Very nice

I'm curious as to what you feel still needs tweaking since the only issue I saw with the previous version that's been fixed here was jagged pixels in the red swirls

paulcorfield In reply to mightybearrr [2013-12-14 02:13:17 +0000 UTC]

Mainly I'm looking at it now and seeing how well it will fit the canvas that I will be painting it onto. I will probably just reposition the camera slightly and maybe tweak the lighting as the two rings in the top right are blending together too much, I'd like to see a bit of separation between them. I'm probably 99.9% happy with it as it is here.Β

I tweak the crap outta everything too!

paulcorfield In reply to Mark-Tamaro [2013-12-13 08:15:29 +0000 UTC]

It's all that tweaking that went from Abstract shape 3 to Abstract shape 4. Shape 3 just didn't feel right although a lot of people liked it. I'll spend 3 or 4 months now painting this in a hyperrealist style in oils on canvas. The image has to be just right and then I know that I will still enjoy painting it after a couple of hundred hours.

It looks so perfect like it is!Β  I imagine you won't rest until you've exhausted all possible tweaks, though.

It's embarrassing how long it takes me to complete an image.

I love to keep tweaking...trying new angles, materials, colors..etc...

The cool thing is for every 10 versions, 3 or more become new works!

Which also get tweaked.

It drives me nuts sometimes.Β  But I still love the process!

Persevere!

paulcorfield In reply to Mark-Tamaro [2013-12-14 12:37:24 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, the more I look at it the less I'm inclined to alter anything. In the top left corner I don't like the small bit that's just visible coming in from the top. I can remove that in the painting stage. Just need to do a really good render ready for projecting onto the canvas so that I can do a really detailed drawing. Getting a new computer next week which will dramatically cut my render times. Been using an old dual core Pentium D 3.4ghz with 4gb ram for the last 5 years or so. Getting an Intel quad core i7 4770 with 8gb ram. The render posted here took about an hour and I'm expecting that to drop to 5 or 10 minutes on the new machine. My final big renders can take about 15 hours and I expect them to come down to just a couple of hours. Quicker renders mean more time for tweaking.Β

You will be blown away by the speed increase!

My latest build is almost due for an upgrade.

I noticed leaps in speed in going to:

64 bit OS, windows 8.1, SSD, quad core and a simple overclock to 3.8.

Each one of these changes alone brought on a very noticeable speed increase.

Homebuilt really is the way to go!

I'm excited for you.Β  When you first fire up your new pc you'll be bouncing off the walls with joy!

Warning:Β  Faster PC=faster tweaks=equals more tweaking!

New computer arrived yesterday. All set up now and I copied over all my Cinema 4D stuff today. Did this exact same render on the new machine with the exact same settings. I have gone from 58 minutes for this render down to a new time of 1 minute and 21 seconds. Like you said I will be blown away by the increase, I think blown away is an understatement, it's amazing.Β

This is a very cool abstract composition. Really nice interaction between the round and square shapes and the red/white color scheme is very clean. It takes a lot (IMO) for an abstract piece to stand out since it isn't a representation of anything. Abstract art must stand on its own without relying on a standard focal point (building, person, natural object, etc.). I was just browsing through DA and this definitely stood out. It almost looks like the facade of an esoteric building. If it was, I'd want to live there.

Nice work!
