I have often thought making an oil painting of one of my fractals or space scenes. Β I am happy to see someone do just that! This is just awesome!!! Congrats on your DD!!Β

Thanks. You should try it. I like computer art but I can't just leave it in its virtual state.

This is some incredible skill. I am assuming you did this without an underpainting ( I don't see how these colors would be possible otherwise), but I have to wander how on earth did you manage to create those perfect edges.
Reflected lights are a joy to look at.

Yes you are correct, no underpainting for this one. The only reason was that it would have added so much time to the painting process. For this type of painting I do a very tight drawing so there's no real need for an underpainting. The painting process is very direct too and by that I mean that colors very opaque and are mixed exactly before putting them on the canvas. With this method each area is finished before moving on. It's probably the most economical way to paint on something of this style. This painting is all about those long flowing curves and the edges had to be spot on. There's a couple in the painting that I want to go over again because they are a fraction out and the majority of people wouldn't even notice, but I'm a perfectionist. Β They way I keep the edges really tight is to paint a section and allow it to dry. When it's dry I wipe over the next section that I am going to paint with linseed oil and then wipe most of that off so just a thin film is left. I also make sure that the film of oil has gone over the dry area of painting that I am going to paint up to. Then I begin that days painting and if I stray over an edge into a section that is already dry, then the film of linseed oil makes it easy to clean up an edge with a dry brush. As a rule I go along all the edges inΒ thisΒ method just to slightly blend them into the dry section beneath.Β
