I've never been able to get vibrant colors with oils, they always seen to grey out to some extent, even straight out of the tube. May I ask the brand/colors you used?
Oh, and amazing technical prowess here, those edges are crisp!

I know exactly what you mean, I was thinking the exact same thing.

Thanks, the edges were probably the hardest part, needed a very steady hand.
For oils I use Michael Harding hand made oils, really good quality and very high tinting strength. I use a fairly limited palette most of the time and I pick the faster drying colors such as Cad Yellow, Cad Yellow Lemon, Cad Red, Cad Orange and Prussian Blue. Michael Harding tubes all list the drying time and I stick with the very fast or fast driers and a few that are average. For any colors that are slow or very slow I will buy that color in the Da Vinci fast dry alkyd range. Mainly that will be colors like Alizarin Crimson, Magenta and Quinacridone Red. They are very high pigment load too, as good as Michael Harding in that respect. For my titanium white I use Michael Harding fast drying, it's oil based with added driers rather than being an alkyd. Sticking to those faster drying colors allows them to dry overnight in most cases. From time to time I will dip into a few special colors that are harder to mix, such as the pthalo greens and blues which I used on this painting in places. The reds on this piece were mostly mixed from Michael Harding Cad Red, Da Vinci Alizarin Crimson alkyd, Da Vinci Magenta alkyd and darkened with Prussian Blue. The greens were mainly mixed from Michael Harding Cad Yellow, Bright Green Lake and Da Vinci Permanent Green Light alkyd, plus maybe prussian or pthalo blue to adjust the color or darken the green. Brushes were all pure red sable, they work best I find for this fine detail work, smooth blending etc.
Another way I use to get pure colors is to print off sections of the image I am copying and print them quite large on good quality paper. I lay a piece of transparent acetate over the image and test my color mixes right next to the printed image until they match perfectly.

Whoa, this is incredible! Everything here seems perfectly balanced, the composition is very well thought out. I can see that it must have taken a long time to come up with this configuration, it has an exciting dynamic quality that excites the senses. The painting looks almost exactly like the 3d render, which is weird when you think about it. It's a surreal painting of an abstract 3d sculpture generated in a computer light simulator. The style is unmistakably yours and you've come up with something truly unique. Seeing this painting in real life on a 30 x 40 inch canvas must be really something! Bravo!

Many thanks for your feedback Jason, it's really appreciated. Also thanks for suggesting me for the daily deviation page. Next week I will be starting another large oil painting based on one of my C4D creations. Since I finished the last painting I've been restructuring my working week to allow me to work on these on a daily basis. That should allow me to complete them in maybe a couple of months rather than the 18 months the last one took. I've got big plans for these images towards the end of this year and really need to get at least 3 or 4 completed.

Cheers Bryan. Likewise, didn't know you were here either. I use deviantart for all my computer generated art and paintings based on those designs. Thanks for the watch, added you to my watches too.
