I don't usually put up my original designs, but I need to beef up the ol' online portfolio a bit- so here ya go. This is Fallout, a character for an original comic I'm working on. Incidentally, this is a book I'm writing and doing concept art for, but NOT planning on drawing if I can help it. If there're any serious folks out there who want to talk about doing art duties and sharing ownership on a kickass creator-owned comic- we should talk...Fallout is copyright Paul Hanley, 2007.

He looks derelict at first glance, but I could see him murdering someone in a heartbeat!

Thanks! And yeah, definitely a bad guy (albeit one with a tragic and sympathetic origin). "Derelict" is actually a pretty apt description of his personality, and he DOES murder a lot of folks (mostly without even noticing it).

This character is even cooler than the last. Do some turnarounds or something for this guy. I'm curious to see you he would look in three dimensions.

Aw shucks, thanks for the encouragement. Y'know, I've never done turnarounds on him and I really need to (with and without the cape- which I added so I wouldn't have to draw those tubes all the time). I think I'll put that on the "to do" list for when I get some free time again.
Man, I wish I could post some of the other designs from the book- these are SO the tip of the iceberg...

Thanks! The character's supposed to originate from the late 50s/ early 60s, so there's definitely an intent to make him look subtlely Wally Wood / Jack Kirby-ish. Mission accomplished, I guess.

neat design. i like it. especially the way to enhance depth by lowering the outlines' contrast. i have seen you using this technique in scenes before, but never in a character design. but it works nicely.
