Description
It was a rough winter in Ottawa, we were on course to break the record for the highest snowfall count in the city since recorded history. There's still lots of snow on the ground and the Ottawa river looks like winter still hasn't given up. Most Ottawans are very much looking forward to spring!
From this vantage point you can see Cathedral Basilica of Notre Dame to the left and the Parliament buildings on Parliament Hill to the right. You don't see any of the more modern buildings that now grace the Ottawa skyline, I suspect this site would look pretty much the same a century ago.

I love this image, but think it is a little too bright. Not underexposed bright, but I think it would be wonderful if it was darkened a little like one multiplied layer at maybe 50% or less and a little blue/cyan adjustment. What a beautiful area!

I edited it, darkened it a bit, gave it a little more contrast and took away a tiny bit of the blue adjustment. I agree I like this one better. Thanks for the advice and the fav!

The additional contrast was a good idea. I like that the snow has a little more detail now too. Great work!
BTW, I am guessing that you figured I meant overexposed not underexposed in my previous comment. Who knows what I was thinking there...

I love the stark contrast between the water and the surrounding snow, looks surreal!

That is very beautiful. One day I would like to go to Ottawa and skate on the Rideau.
Perhaps I would prefer it in the summer though, because I've had enough of winter! Awesome pic!

Wow, what a nice Winter scenery!!! I went to Ottawa when I was a small girl and found the place very nice. I remember seeing lots of flowers, especially tulips that came for Holland as a gift to the Canadian soldiers. Is this the Canal Rideaux that we see in the photograph?

Thanks! That is the Ottawa River, the Rideau Canal starts just on the other side of Parliament Hill, but we can't see it in the pic. Yeah every May there are always tons of tulips in the city. You can see some in this pic [link] That was taken across the street from the Parliament buildings.

I see. I was told that lots of people went skating on the Rideau Canal in Winter. Oh! I just saw the other pic and I decided to add it to my favorite, not only because of the pretty red tutips lol, but for the Terry Fox's statue too. I remember him and Rick Hansen and how their courage touched everyone!

Thank you, yeah Terry was a great inspiration and is still revered here in Canada. Yeah the Rideau Canal is the world's largest skating rink when it is frozen. You can see it in this pic [link] but the canal is not frozen, there's just a lot of wet snow. In the summer it is filled with boats.

You're welcome! I agree, I saw a few places & parks in Canada that were named after him. Like the park Terry Fox in Granby, Quebec for instance....That was another great shot that you had there, with all the light around the river.
