Stamp Template by Kencho.Let me just say one thing before this rant. I DO NOT HATE JAPAN. It just isn't all that it's cracked up to be.
(I've never been to Japan-but I've read up a lot of rants, comments, journals, and deviations.)
So the first time that you found anime/manga, you were like, "Cool!" Then, after a few more episodes/chapters, you were like, "Oh my gosh, I wanna be a _____-mangaka, animator, manga story person, etc.-!" So after that, you decided to start drawing, take lessons, save up money to move to Japan, and learn Japanese.
But by the time you get there and you move there, you find out that Japan isn't all it's cracked up to be. Sure, they're pretty smart, with all their technology and crap. And sure, they are all pretty healthly with their gym memberships and they're diets. But the older generation is pretty racist-And they have every right to be. We did all that crap to them way back. And the manga/anime industry is extremely competitive. The salary for almost any job SUCKS . And anyway, most of the time, if you're not Japanese (or just plain Asian) and you want a job in the manga/anime industry, you might as well kiss your Japanese apartment goodbye and get back on that plane. Because no matter how good your skills, if you aren't a native, you probably won't get a job. (XENOPHOBIA! D:)
List of Reasons Why Your General Weeaboo Would Move to Japan
- To enjoy anime/manga more.
-To become a mangaka/animator.
-To learn Japanese.
-To study the 'hentai culture'. [link]
(There are more; I just have to go so I'll list the rest later.)

Another reason why Japan isn't the greatest place on Earth weeaboos make it out to be: Pearl Harbor in 1941--which you should all know about by now--and more infamously the Manchurian Crisis of 1936-1939. Not very nice guys.

I live in Japan, and i'm actually Japanese.
I'm okay with this, and when I ask Americans why they move to our country, they say "To study manga and art so I can become like you guys!"
I actually agree with this, we are not just anime.

I don't understand why some people think Japan is nothing but anime and stuff. You are a person just like I am a person, living a life that involves waking up and going to work to support yourself I always thought the eastern culture was pretty interesting and I didn't even know what anime was until my sister told me when I was in middle school. I would love to visit Japan and China because I hear it's very pretty over there. I would love to go during the spring

I admit I love anime and Japanese video games and things, but it's just a country. Hell if anything the place is overcrowded, polluted, and I'm pretty sure everyone has some form of claustraphobia. (I spelled that wrong I know) why do you think they move here?

PREACH IT SISTA! (Or Brotha) I admit, I like anime, manga, and certain J-rock bands and Vocaloid, but, come on, it's just another country. One of my greatest pet peeves is when people listen to Japanese songs and instantly go "OMG IT'S LIKE A STORY IN A SONG OMGOMGOMGOMG" Dude. Haven't they heard of anything that isn't JB, Rebecca Black, etc. It's just in a different language. Grow the heck up.

I'm first going to assume you are American (sorry if I'mwrong) But what you said about the older generation isn't that true. They are racist yes,but they attacked the other countries first. They bombed America (I forgot where) which is why America bombed Hiroshima. They killed 35 MILLION in the Nanjing Massacre >: ( I had relatives there. D':

Anyone can take a picture, but it doesn't mean it's art. It's the elements the picture capture, the scenery. Photos can also evoke emotions. They even carry messages.
Anyone can take pictures of anything, but some pictures are different. You can tell.
Anime? No.
The only anime that I appreciate is Akira, and only because it was traditionally animated and I myself am a traditional animator.

Anime can be well done though. So what then, is all manga/anime-style art not really art, even if it's well-drawn and exceptionally done?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
NolenStrahm In reply to CelticKawaii [2012-07-21 02:15:10 +0000 UTC]
That's the thing, all anime has that general concept which will never make then unique in it's own respective way. The big wide eyes will always be there. Anime will not be acknowledged by art schools here.
Even if they relinquish the wide eyes (which they won't) it isn't original. It's all the same basic concept style but with different story lines or plots.
Micky Mouse and Bugs Bunny do NOT look anything the same. They are unique.
Naruto and Ichi? Not that different. See?

Funny you should say that, because there are colleges that do courses on manga and anime. And no, not all anime characters have the stereotypical wide eyes (Spirited Away, as seen in the picture from this TV Tropes page: [link] )
Also, anime was actually inspired by Western animation style such as Bugs Bunny and Betty Boop, complete with the large eyes.

NolenStrahm In reply to CelticKawaii [2012-07-21 09:17:28 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, without the Americans, there wouldn't be anime. Our style pioneered many cartoons and animations. But as far as studying anime in the U.S. it will never work because the only way it would be considered anime is if you are actually JAPANESE! If you take courses here and draw manga or anime here, it isn't anime anymore and it never will be. It's as if you built a Roman Colosseum in the U.S. and claimed that it is one.
Is it a Roman Colosseum? No, it's pretty much a cheap stadium knock off.
Besides, in Spirited Away, Haku had huge eyes.
I'm just saying, universities such as CalArts (founded by Walt Disney and many alumi's such as Tim Burton) say anime is crap. And even in high schools, the art teachers attempt to stray away from anime.
The style may change some variations but it's a Japanese thing and Americans shouldn't bastardize it like they do with everything, including cultures, languages and culinary from different countries. They should just enjoy, but not mess with it.
In the end, anime is a bit overrated, too many weeboos, it's kinda gross, and Japan hates Americans. Why glorify Japan?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
CelticKawaii In reply to NolenStrahm [2012-07-21 16:33:53 +0000 UTC]
Okay, I'll admit that anime is a bit overrated. But why is it so bad that *gasp* non-Japanese people use that style? So does that mean no one is aloud to use a style not belonging to their culture? It's not a bastardization. I know for a fact it's not strictly speaking 'anime', but referred to as 'animesque', or isnpired by the anime/manga style. Kind of like how steampunk isn't a bastardization of the Victorian era.
Look, yes, the weeaboos suck, but guess what...idiots abound in all fandoms, regardless of what it is. A lot of furries are sick zoophiles, a lot of whites are racist, a lot of Christians are fundie assholes...does that suddenly make the group they belong to bad? No.
You and I can have our own opinions about anime. You hate it, I don't, but either way, don't discredit it as an art. I hate rap music, it sounds all the same to me, but I still recognize that it takes some talent to pull off and can be done well.
Finally, why is just liking anime suddenly 'glorifying' Japan? I know Japan isn't everything, I just happen to like the art. And yes, that's what it is.
