I've had this in the 'to draw' folder for a while now and decided to do it to maybe enter in a contest here on dA.I'm a wee bit disappointed, the scan is showing all my naughty pencil marks and you can barely see them in the real thing, but this is the best I'm getting at the moment
Materials:
Hahnemuhle Nostalgie A4
Pencils HB to 8B
Erasers
Ruler
White Pastel (hopefully to give a glow on her face like water reflection)

EDIT: I've upped the contrast on this by 15% to try and get rid of some of the grainey look it had, its a bit better, although now the top is very dark .... but not as distracting, so I think I'll leave it like this now.

This is a lovely picture and you really captured the essence of your reference image. Your technique is excellent and I really like the graduated tones of shading and the smooth transition. However, I think there are still some things you could improve in this picture. The wrinkles of her right hand seem a bit odd and in my oppinion you should have left a tiny bit of the back of her hand. Now the transition between background and hand appears quite harsh. Making her hand look somewhat bulky.
The technique you used for the reflection at the front does not look as good as the rest of your picture. Your pencil strokes seem kinda hard here and the transitions are not as smooth as for the rest. But on second thought this might also be related to the scan issues you mentioned in your comment. The shading of her right cheek seems a bit too dark, making her face appear sunken in/hollow.
Overall, I think this is a really good work. Keep it up

I agree about the reflection, it was a first for me with water and I added pastel to the reflections, in hindsight this was a bad move
I agree about her cheek too, a few people have pointed it out.

This is beautiful! It looks almost identical to the reference photo and her eyes are lovely. My only critique is that the shadow on her right cheek (when you look at the picture

I'm fine. I didn't draw for the past few days and won't draw for a few more days because my hand and arm hurts. It already is a lot better but I prefer to wait a little longer. This really buggs me because I have a wip laying around on my table together with all the pencils and I want to continue.

I know what you mean. When it's a commission or present the drawing should be as good as possible, right? When I draw a present I think a lot more about what I do and when I draw something for myself I just draw most of the time without much planning. I mean no-one has to see it when it looks bad when it's finished.

Thank you very much, I'm glad you like, i'm a bit gutted at the mo, declined it with no explanation, I've never had a drawing declined from them before, i think everything in my gallery is in there
Its a great website, soooo much to choose from
I like the paper, I had seen it on loads of folks comments and it was quite hard to find in the UK, but i found one site. Its only 190gsm which is a real shame, but its so lovely to blend on and not streaky at all. I find on my smooth bristol i need to have a couple of layers before i start to get close to a smooth blend but on this 1-2 your already there! It is grainy though, but not as much as on the scan

I had Cute Mischief declined a couple of days ago from a group ... my heart sank.
Turns out one of the contributors made a mistake!!!

I've tried "grainy" paper before and didn't like it ... think I'll stick with my bristol board!!
Perhaps, one day I'll try it, I'll give you a shout!!
Haha ... I know what you mean about several layers before seeing a smooth blend!!
I always almost give up on a drawing when I see my first "patchy" layer of graphite, it always looks awful!!

You definately wouldnt get your lovely smooth tones on this paper, too much of a tooth, though better than standard bristol. Give me a shout anytime, no prob
I'm only mediochre compared to so many folks on dA but I get people asking me questions and you know, I'm awful tempted to post a WIP on the first half hour of a drawing, it would boost the confidence in continuing thats for sure ... scary till it starts to come together
