Description
The beefcake of the Niobrara seas, Protostega leads a mostly solitary life. Unlike most other mid-sized carnivores like it, Protostega does not form bales in order to hunt prey, nor does it spend time near other individuals when not doing anything; the only time it actually congregates is when it is a juvenile finding its way to the ocean, or when it is trying to find a mate during the mating season. Despite this, Protostega has a mellow temperament, and is capable of most animals around it; in fact, it generally shares its habitat with a variety of sea creatures without claiming territory or showing signs of aggression. The only animals it ever gets wary of are giant predators like Xiphactinus, Cretoxyrhina, and Tylosaurus, and it will attempt to roll upwards and use its shell as shield in order to intimidate its aggressor or block its attacks; if that fails, it will either swim away as fast as it can or fight back with its sharp beak. Being too slow and poorly-built to eat fish or big marine reptiles, Protostega subsists on the jellyfish that float around in the briny water, using its beak to snag them and the many pointed papillae in its throat to make sure it doesnβt escape; however, it will sometimes prey on belemnites and tunicates from time to time. Unsurprisingly, Protostega shows no parental care, and will immediately leave the nest it digs in the sand of the seashore after it lays its eggs there and buries them; due to this, juveniles have to congregate and make their way to the ocean without getting eaten by volant carnivores like Ichthyornis and Pteranodon. Once they do reach the water, they dissociate from each other and live life on their own."I like turtles!"
My ninth major Saurian sequel playable drawing, featuring the armored, leathery-shelled Protostega! Any thoughts so far?
