Concept:
======

This picture is a mockup of a fictional, graphics-based computer operating system I call GUIOS. (Graphical User Interface Operating System).

I took the ideas from Windows, Macintosh, and Linux, and fused them into what I would consider a very unique operating system.
The whole idea behind this OS is that it is primarily task and time-based, instead of folder-based like most operating systems. Sure, the option to make folders is still present, but I tried to do something nobody else has. Instead of digging through folders to find that document you edited only yesterday, it's placed neatly in the recent files list on the right side on the desktop.

I'll outline some of the key ideas I used when designing this:

Graphic-centered computer usage, emphasising transparency, shadowing, and color
Time-based file storage
Support for all the latest standards, both in hardware and software
Fully customizable desktop, windows, and color schemes
4-letter filename extentions (instead of the standard 3)
Built-in MP3/CD playback, Microphone recording, HTML editing, and much more
Drop-down "Console" for typing in system commands at any time
File preview when hovering over file (shown in lower right)
No "Start" menu anywhere to be seen--that lower left icon minimizes all programs
