Description G.U.N. agents who join the force as adults enter and are allowed a limit of two children with a spouse but no more, when they have a child, they are no longer allowed any more or they risk being kicked out. This is due to intense rules put in place to avoid distractions from their missions. When a child is born to a couple and one or both of them are G.U.N. agents, the child will be unallowed to have a name, and their name is forced into a letter from A to Z and the year they were born. Only 26 children are permitted to be born to G.U.N. agents a year, the resulting children are raised by the group from age 5 to 18 and are unallowed to refer to their parent as a mother or father to avoid attachment conflicting with their job. They can fall in love with one partner at most and are encouraged to work with them if they can avoid distractions with them. When the G.U.N. agent born into the program reaches the age of 18 and or gets their first assignment, they can pick a name or receive one suited for the mission.

Foster children can also wind up in G.U.N. if they have good grades yet troubled backgrounds. A G.U.N. agent will be instructed to sign themselves up as a foster child's guardian and will be in charge of them. The foster child in question is allowed to keep their original name to avoid them hating G.U.N. more than they eventually will down the line.

Agent R-1972 was born on an unknown day but her age is speculated to be the year 1972 sometime in late winter to early spring. Having at least one or both parents be G.U.N. agents, she was put forcibly into training and legally adopted by the organization at the age of five years old. She has fuzzy memories of her father. However, R-1972 does know her mother to be Agent Topaz, who she works with regularly and will often spend time with her outside of work even when this is technically prohibited. R-1972 never met her father and Topaz made it very clear not to ever speak of him. R-1972 believes him to be a soldier who either died in a raid or simply is in another part of the world and can't be seen often as a result. However, in an attempt to be semi closer to him, R-1972 began to look up information on bat culture, discovering she was half Honduran white bat. R-1972 began extensive research she continues to partake in well into adulthood.

At age 13 she finished junior training and was offered to pick between two positions in G.U.N. that would affect her career for the rest of her life. Either she become an agent or become a soldier. Choosing the role of agent she underwent a very invasive medical procedure that made it so she can't have children, something she wasn't told about in advance and caused her some pretty damaging trauma as a result. This was the beginning of when she started to question the ethics of G.U.N. and their legitimacy.

One of the most important rites of passage when coming of age in G.U.N. is to see project Shadow up close, it was here R-1972 learned about Black Arms, the history of the project and therefore G.U.N. in the process. Project Shadow had a habit of waking up and falling back asleep while under containment. This was a very normal occurrence that could be corrected by sending him back asleep. As the rest of her agent class began to leave Shadow behind, she stayed for just a moment to see him up close, putting her hand on the glass as he stirred awake and locked eye contact with her before being sent back to sleep as R-1972 was pulled far away from Shadow.

As part of the curriculum of G.U.N.'s academy for trainees, it was expected to take college level courses in specific fields. R-1972 studied heavily in the history of chaos energy, precious gemstones and geology, psychology, as well as studying cultures from all over the world. It was also mandatory R-1972 learn at minimum 5 languages. She can read and speak in Japanese, French, Russian, Spanish, and the old echidna language. During this time, she dated an aspiring scientist who ended up in the G.U.N. program as a foster child by the name of Starline, however the relationship was cut short when he was caught doing experiments on other agents R-1972 included.

For three years, R-1972 would stand guard over Project Shadow often alone and would be in charge of putting him back to sleep when he woke up. However, R-1972 would find herself talking to the unconscious project a lot as if he were awake, then we did wake up she would visibly freak out and send him back to his coma. Once she did get brazen enough to put her hand on the glass to meet his for only a moment, but was stopped by Commander Abraham Towers and Shadow was sent back to sleep, giving Rouge a warning to not allow that to occur again.

Robotnik initiated a raid on G.U.N. on New Year's Eve of 1990 when R-1972 met Sally Acorn and teamed up with her to stop the capture of project Shadow. They however failed to stop him and ended up with Shadow taken by the Doctor. Knowing almost everything about Shadow there was to know, R-1972 requested Sally to ask Topaz if R-1972 could be lent to the rebellion to chase him down. Sally agreed, and R-1972 finally got to pick the name Rouge Dulaney as it's not only Topaz's actual last name but a name Rouge could see in lights in the old days of movies from the fifties, a time she romanticizes in her head, using personalities of powerful women in noir films as the basis of her personality as an agent.
