Woah, I drew something non-furry! You can all thank ~StarDragonBlue for this. She's the one who suggested "mantid" for my 10 Anthro Challenge. The lovely lady pictured here is a Extatosoma tiaratum or "giant spiny stick insect". I know, I know, not a bona fide mantid, but they are relatives. I used to have one of these for a pet (not anthro, obviously), named Gwendolyn, so they're very close to my heart.

Have mercy. My very first non-mammalian anthro, ever. I profoundly regret only giving her four limbs instead of the insect six. That was me being afraid and trying to make the insect anatomy more like my own than it should have been. I also chickened out on the mandibles and [insect] abdomen fins, and wish I hadn't. Overall, though, I'd call this pretty decent for a first try. I particularly like her articular capsules.

Nothing to see under that scrap of fabric she's wearing. Insects don't have... Well, anything there. I put the fabric there for the aesthetics and while coloring, tested a technique for patterned cloth. Oh, and that's jewelry on her neck, metal rings.

Huge thank-you to ~nosredna1313 for tweaking the scan for me! It's darned near perfect now save for a slight graininess of the sky! Also, the gray parts (ground and articular capsules) are a bit more brownish in person. Minor detail.

The tree boughs in the backdrop are crap. =/ You don't have to tell me. Tried something new there that I won't be trying again. The backdrop sky got all grained-up in the scan, too.
