Description
For the PoM over at . An Aron looks for nibbles among piles of scree.Drawn with 0.7mm mechanical pencil, with colors added in Paint Shop Pro 7. I debated submitting this in black and white, but I was picturing it in color from the piece's conception. That, and I'm kinda insecure about my monochrome skills.

This piece looks simple at a glance but there's a lot going on. Β I like your color choice and your linework. Β There's something really appealing about the bold colors laid over pencil line.

Aron is probably the cutest thing in Gen 3.
I can't wait to see it in 3D.

Such a gorgeous Aron! I love the way you made the background, simple but in a realistic way and the colors are in equilibrium.
Beautiful artwork!

This is so incredibly adorable. 8D
I absolutely love how the colour of the sky is mirrored in the eye, that creates a really gorgeous harmony.
And the little tilt of the pokΓ©mon definitely adds to the composition.

as usual, very beautiful scenery you made. Even though it's simple, it has a charm that works perfectly with that Aron. Kind of looks like the little guy cleaned out the place and wants to go look for more rocks~ I really enjoy the pencil markings too. They're so CLEAN, even in the shading it looks uniform. It's very appealing to look at I think, so don't let it bug you

I have a wonderful, indispensable fine-point eraser pen that was extra helpful for this. :3 Really helps clean up the lines.

I think the taste of the graphite is good and I love it, in particular the shadow effect. and I notice the CG could preserve that good taste completely, the other traditional medias meddle in the graphite effect much. I just notice it's a good combination.

Thank you! I do appreciate digital for being able to add color without messing up the traditional lines. My markers and colored pencils would have smeared the graphite. I don't know how watercolor reacts to graphite, but this drawing is on paper that is awful for paints anyway.

I think I prefer these pencil lines to your usual ink ones. I like the delicate lines in the rocks by Aron's butt and the tapered fade on the one going down his face. You just can't get those fades and variations with ink, regardless of pen tip size.

Wow, thank you for the kind comment and fav, Windie! Using graphite was good practice. I used to do graphite pieces somewhat often before joining DA, and I was suddenly craving to have that tasty pencil texture.

oh of course
do you use brushpens?
and is one able to use large amounts of pressure and still get good results? [yah answer to latter question would probably be no but my hands are very shaky and twitchy]
π: 0 β©: 1
Peachfuzz In reply to 244705 [2013-04-12 01:28:18 +0000 UTC]
Yes, I love my brush-tipped Pitt pens. <3 Here are some examples of my work with them, in case you are interested: [link] [link] [link]
"Good results" is subjective, but I can say that any sort of brush is sensitive to the pressure you use it with. The ability to carefully control the pressure would allow you to make more types of strokes, and a light touch is necessary to get fine lines with them. That said, I have shaky hands too and I tend to bear down quite hard, so I struggle with brushpens. If I need a lot of control, I've found that it helps if I rest my hand on the paper so only my fingers are moving the brush. My fingers are a lot more steady than my whole hand. Or I just do whatever I'm doing really FAST so my shakiness doesn't have time to make the lines wiggly.
I hope that helps. I'm still pretty inexperienced with my brushpens, but I do love them.
