Description For one moment
The guns stopped firing
Animosity halted

For one moment
We looked at each other
We spoke like we always had
Free

Amidst the rough outlines of the trees stars bloomed
Friendship rekindled like gentle fires that warmed us
in the unforgiving December rain

Peace, bliss
No longer exist

A gentle drizzle turns to flood
The tide brings with it immense anguish
Sweeping away warm memories
Struggling for our own survival
The intervals stretched like imploring waves
Fate dictated we'd never meet
Gone
Swift
Like a bullet

Roads were built, institutions reorganised -- a nation flourished
Comrades buried with the years that similarly withered and died
But no matter where the wind blows
I find myself swayed to our memories
How I dreamed of you
The courageous smile that shaped me
The reassuring words in times of doubt

We were great together

I'll tear down the fences history built between us
I'll cross the seas with my frail health
Just so we could be as we were
Dee and CTB against the Rising Sun

When you agreed, my heart soared
All the times we had in the jungle
Our exchanges of words, of glances
Every private moment that lived on only in our hearts
I thought we could relive the good old days

Illusions

Things were never the same
Your smile, with age became anxious and uncertain
Your words restrained by years of enmity
You used up all your valour on the battlefield
Now when you look at me
Camaraderie turned to bloodshed

The bloodstain on the past
No tide no wave no flood could wash away
Tell me, would it be different if I were your favourite Dragon?

John Davis from Force 136, and Chin Peng from Communist Party of Malaya. Inspired by the book "Our Man in Malaya". Painted in the "I don't know which style to go for so here's a thing I find okay enough" style. This piece took too long due to other commitments, insurmountable problems and the fact I couldn't come up with a satisfactory poem to go with it. But anyway I hope you like it.

I drew them together before here:

Textures, photos, drawing made by my hamster paws. Pose referenced from Wolfsheim photo. The men belong to themselves.
