Description
It was a sad day for the Detroit Police Department, especially for Connor as well. He lost his beloved friend and partner of the DPD, Hank Anderson. Who passed away due to alcohol poisoning. It was only a matter of time before the alcohol would catch up and take a toll on his body. Suffering the loss of losing a child, no mother or father should ever go through that kind of loss.Connor found out the hard way when Hank didn’t show up for work that one morning, though it was expected that Hank would be late to show up at the DPD. However, Hank would show up in the early afternoon but that wasn’t the case. Connor tried to call him several times and left him several messages, no answer. Growing concerned, Connor asked Jeffrey Fowler if he could excuse himself to check on Lieutenant Anderson.
“Alright, see if he’s sober enough to show up and to get his ass to work. This is his final warning or he turns in his badge.” Said an angry Fowler.
“Understood.” Nodded Connor in agreement.
Upon arrival, Connor walked up to the door step and called out for Hank. “Lieutenant Anderson! Hank, it’s me Connor!” Said Connor as he annoyingly rang the door bell.
With no response, Connor pressed his ear against the door and he heard Hank’s dog Sumo whimpering in a forlorn manner. Connor sighed and reached into his pocket for a spare house key that Hank gave him. As he entered the front door, Connor saw Sumo in the kitchen where Connor also saw Hank laying on the cold floor with an empty bottle of vodka.
Rushing over to Hank, Sumo looked up at Connor; still whimpering in sadness. Then Connor crouched over Hank and did a vital scan of him and checking his heart, no pulse. Connor gasped and quickly stood up in panic.
His LED circle began to glow red, as the realization kicked in. Hank is dead. Then the LED light flashed yellow to 911.
“911 what’s your emergency?” Said the operator.
“This is Lieutenant Hank Anderson’s android, I found Hank Anderson lying dead in his kitchen floor due to alcohol poisoning. The address is (address)” Said Connor to the operator.
“Alright, paramedics are on the way.” Said the operator.
After getting off the line with the operator, Connor’s LED ring flashed back to the color red. Thoughts began to swim within his circuits. Hank was the reason he began to feel human emotions, his friend made him feel human and now that he’s gone. What will happen to Connor now? Will he continue to work with the fellow officers at the DPD, or will he be sent back to Cyber Life and be deactivated?
With these thoughts going through his mind, he felt emotions that he had never felt before. Sadness and grief.
Three Weeks Later…
It has been almost a month since the passing of Hank Anderson, Connor still worked at the DPD. He was thankful that he wasn’t sent back to Cyber Life, but there were times when Connor would grief in silence for the loss of his friend. Even though Hank’s work space was completely cleared, Connor still had his work space that was just across Hank’s. It wasn’t long until someone else took Hank’s place to be the Lieutenant of the DPD, but Connor wasn’t assigned to be that said person’s partner. To be quite frank, Connor didn’t care
Connor sat in silence at his desk looking through case files and waiting for orders, until the office phone on his desk rang.
“Connor, meet me in my office. There’s someone you need to be introduced to.” Ordered Jeffery.
“Yes sir.” Said Connor as he hung up the phone, got up from his seat and headed to Fowler’s office.
When Connor entered Jeffery’s office there was a blonde female that sat in front of Jeffery’s desk, with a box of personal belongings next to her and had her back facing Connor.
“Connor I want you meet Yuka, your new partner. She’s the new rookie working for the DPD, and she graduated the top of her class at the police academy. I want you help her get used to things around here and train her.” Said Jeffery.
Then Yuka turned around to face Connor, she got up from her seat to shake his hand. “Hello Connor, it’s nice to meet you.” Said Yuka with a warm smile.
Connor was taken back by how beautiful this young woman was. Luscious long blonde locks, ice blue eyes and a flawless pale complexion. She reminded him of that android by the name of Chloe, who he felt empathy for when Kamski told him to shoot her for the sake of his mission.
He did a quick profile scan of the young beautiful female. Yuka, date of birth (M/D/2017) age 22... He did a full background check on her, finding out every bit of information he could.
Once he made contact with her hand, something within him clicked. His LED ring flashed from a bright blue to a fire red. It didn’t go unnoticed for Jeffery and Yuka were curious as to why it flashed red. Then Connor’s grip on Yuka’s hand began to tighten slightly, but not to the point of hurting her. Most of all, he relished the fact he would be a superior to this rookie.
“Are you alright Connor?” Asked Yuka in a concerned manner.
“Yes Yuka, I’m perfectly fine. I look forward to working with you.” Said Connor in a calm collected voice with a warm smile. Then his LED went back to it’s normal blue hue.
“Connor, take Yuka to her new desk across from yours and help get her things in order.” Said Jeffery.
“Of course Jeffery.” Said Connor.
Yuka grabbed her small box of work items and knick knacks while as Connor held the door open for Yuka, and a small “thank you” addressed to Connor for kind courtesy. As Connor and Yuka left the Fowler’s office, he rose a brow due to Connor’s suspicious LED light change.
Connor showed Yuka her new work space and helped her set up.
“Oh Connor, you don’t need to help me set up my belongings on my desk. I can do it myself.” Said Yuka.
Connor stopped but wasn’t he placed in charge of being this rookie’s superior? He wasn’t going to take no for an answer.
“Please Yuka, I insist. Let me help you, that way I can learn more about you.” Said Connor as he scanned her belongings without paying any attention to Yuka.
Yuka took it the wrong way, at what he said and found it rather creepy. ‘To learn more her.’
“What do you mean by that?” Asked Yuka.
“My apologies, to put it simply that I learn what your hobbies are, interests or if you own any pets. It’s how I got to know more about my former partner in a short amount of time, and I even became very close friend to him.” Said Connor to reassure her, even though it was for a disturbing obsession.
Yuka seemed more at ease and sighed, even though it was a creepy quirk for an android. “Sorry, I guess I’m just a little paranoid. So, do you have any other creepy quirks that I should know about?” Yuka jokingly teased him.
Connor recalled the previous times when Hank would be disgusted and appalled when he take blood samples and lick them from his finger tips, to gather DNA samples from crime scenes. He figured it would be best to not say anything to Yuka, for he knew she would find it even more disturbing.
“No, that was the only thing that my former partner found that was creepy about me.” Said Connor as he gave her a warm smile.
Yuka chuckled at the response, “you must’ve been very close friends with Hank, and you were the only one who could reach him. I heard a lot of good things about him, but also that he went through some troubling issues, I wonder what they were?” Said Yuka.
Connor took a moment to pause. “ Yes, I could reach Hank better than anyone else in the DPD. Hank… lost his son many years ago, and turned to alcohol to numb the emotional pain. There were times when I also think he suffered from severe depression. The more my data base processes these kind of human emotions, the more and more I understand humanity just as much as the average human.” Said Connor sadly.
“I’m sorry Connor, for bringing it up.” Said Yuka as she put her hand on his shoulder for comfort, a gentle touch.
Connor gave Yuka a sympathetic look. “It’s alright Yuka, you didn’t know… Since were partners in the DPD, I hope we can become good friends just like I was with Hank. It’s odd, I don’t know to form a coherent thought but since it’s my duty to help train you to be the best officer you can be for the DPD. I feel a sort of obligation to protect you as well.” Said Connor.
“After loosing Hank I fear that I may tragically loose another partner/friend in the field or off duty.” Said Connor worryingly.
“Not to worry Connor, I can handle my own.” Said Yuka cheerfully as she placed the last of her items neatly on her new organized workspace.
“Well, let’s see if I can find a case file for us to begin with on your first day.” Said Connor as he walked back to his desk and Yuka gave him a nod in response.
As he sat back down at his work space, when Yuka wasn’t looking. Connor LED ring flashed red and a sinister smirk graced his lips, as he calculated a plan to have Yuka all to himself.
