The week nine ATG challenge post (Athletic Pony) ended with "Let the games begin!" and I just had to draw this. It fits under "athletic" because AJ is an athletic pony as well as a silly one.

Context! Spoilers for The Hunger Games! The Hunger Games involves a nationwide game that 24 kids are "reaped" or selected for, by lottery. Katniss volunteers to take her younger sister's place. Oh, and the games aren't over until all but one competitor is dead. In the arena, Katniss befriends Rue, a rival. Katniss has been stung by a vicious form of wasp, and Rue knows a herbal remedy for their stings. In the book, Katniss is an expert archer, but for this she\'s really good at lassoing.

Casting and Characters! Applejack is Katniss because the two characters match well, Applebloom is Prim, mostly because she's Applejack's sister. Trixie is Effie Trinket mostly because they both appeared on stage. I put Fluttershy as Rue because she's soft-spoken and because she sings- Sweetie Belle might have been a better choice because of her age, but I cannot draw fillies/colts, the two pictures of Applebloom took me over an hour just for her.

Quality/Color and Lack Thereof! I tried vectorizing this in Inkscape. That's not happening, because Inkscape lacks variable stroke width and it's just not worth it to me to put that much work into an inferior product. I might try colored pencils or ink the lineart, that depends on whether people would rather have more story or colored versions of this. If I'm missing something in Inkscape, or somepony wanted to point me at a better SVG editor, or donate Illustrator/Flash (not likely!) I'd be much obliged.

My Little Pony is Hasbro's, The Hunger Games belongs to Susanne Collins and Scholastic Press. Both are awesome. Dialog has been "ponified" from The Hunger Games.
