[[sorry for being gone so long, my new job has me working insane hours!]]this is my theory for why Lin and Tenzin probably didnt make it. I think she was injured in a way that will prevent her from having kids, she tried to talk to Tenzin about it and things got out of hand. I can see her being happy for him that Pema can give him what he wants but bitter because, those kids should be hers....

I guess you could think of it this way...how about Toph had Lin with another guy, the guy just couldn't handle Toph and left. Toph was brokenhearted but wouldn't show it, but Sokka can see through her and he comforts her. While comforting her, things got a closer than it should have and they ended up fallen in love. Sokka marries Toph and becomes Lin's Stepfather instead of father. That way...Lin is not Tenzin biological cousin...just stepcousin. No blood involved so it wouldn't be so wrong for those two to be a couple. How does that do for you? ( I am a Sokka/Suki shipper...but I will allow Tokka in my heart if Sokka and Suki didn't work out or of Suki dies...even if it would make me sad...)

IDK if this could be true or not. Lin is in her 50's, well beyond child-bearing age, and Tenzin broke up with her because he met & married someone else (Pema). How she got her scars (and whether or not she was injured to the point of sterility) is up for grabs.
