Very nice, she seems to be questioning something but cautious.

I see a question: Do you see me for who I AM, or can you still not see it's not the outsides that matter. It's like: If I shave my head, will I make it easy for you to focus on my eyes? Her head slightly turned to the left gives me a sensation of questioning the "person" she's looking at, with no reaction, just observing and feeling the answers instead of thinking about them.

I see genuine distrust, I see the research for optimism into herself after she's gave up looking for it elsewhere. An attempt to stop feeling afraid in order to finally reach the will of power. She's not feeling sad for anything, she's trying to fight nihilism.
who's the model?

I see some slight fear and suspicion. Then also interest and wonder.

I see her recovering from something unfortunate that happened in her life, very strong expression and eye contact, lighting is powerful, great shot by all means.

She looks sad....
Great photo; she's brave for shaving her head. When I did it people gave me HELL. I like how it feels when it starts to grow back in again though; it feels like a bunny or something LOL it's so soft.

I'm sorry to hear people gave you hell over simply cutting your hair short. Was it the people you were around or is it to do with some sort of cultural misconception?
Ashleigh (the model) shaved her head for Shave For A Cure, which is to raise money for cancer research. I was there for support and a bit of a laugh when she shaved it one night, but was a little surprised that it wasn't that much of a difference to me. In fact I thought it looked great and asked if I could take her portrait the following night (and hence this image).
I've shaved mine once or twice when I was younger and yes it does feel nice lol. It's not really a big deal here for a guy to shave their head though. In some places, people automatically assume skinheads or something like that, which was the reaction of a few people to this image. But only online from other countries, not locally.
Thanks for your comment.

It was the people around me. Normally my family is really open-minded but they really shocked me when they tried to convince me not to shave my head. They said it wouldn't look pretty, that I'd be mistaken for a guy or a lesbian or a skinhead, or that people would think I have cancer.... And then when I did it anyway they couldn't wait for it to grow again....
I guess I can't really judge them though; they've been taught by society that women are supposed to have long hair.
I've always thought it looked awesome though...I'm fascinated by the shape of the human head...(LOL I don't know why)....
My family suggested doing it for a charitable cause but I didn't really have enough hair for that. Besides I already did that a few years ago...and even though that's a good idea and everything, I just think it's kinda silly how girls always have to justify cutting their hair by saying they gave it to charity...guys don't have to do that.... This culture is kinda stupid that way.... (It is a nice thing to do though, don't get me wrong.)

I get a slight hint of envy but I am listening to music at the moment so perhaps it corrupts my interpretation? If I had to put words to her face at the moment they'd be: "You're lying."

Wow... this is intense. I love her eyes. It's a raw emotion. determination, it's fierce.
I browse around deviantart and it's mostly either extreme makeup or myspace photos. This is a beautiful raw image. I love it.

So many...
I guess it all depends on our own emotion at the time we see her...
Excellent work...
A well deserved DD...

Precisely...
Looking at an emotional portrait is like looking into a mirror where we're less afraid to see what's staring back at us. Because of this we can often actually discover more about ourselves. We don't always realise this however.
Thanks so much!

I think portraits need only be simple to open up a window into someone's emotions and a mirror to one's self.
Thank you.

This looks like the moment she has been told something and is trying to decide whether to accept it or not
Nice shot, in any case
