Also, didn't Valve say that Portal 2 takes place at least 50,000 years after the events of the first Portal?
And doesn't Half-Life 2 also take place 25-30 years after the Black Mesa Incident?

Or the Resistance caused them to evolve by trying to use the Borealis against the Combine.
Remember what Eli had said to Kleiner: "Has Black Mesa taught you nothing?! There's no controlling that sort of power!"
And the simple fact that Gman had used Alyx ro relay a message, "Prepare for Unforseen Consequences", as a means to remind Eli of what caused the Resonance Cascade, the Portal Storms, the Seven Hours War and so on proves that nobody should tamper with things they don't understand and that some secrets are better off being undiscovered.
However, the Human race is too stubborn to realize that since we are known to destroy ourselves over the smallest of quarrels, it is also in our nature to explore and learn about things that we don't know anything about so that we can find some way to understand what we have learned.

Not the way I see it. The Companion Cube is just a box. That can survive up to 4,000 degrees Kelvin. Wheatley is silly and adorkable.
