Description
"[Hermione] hesitated, but recognized the dismissal. She picked up the book and then walked back past [Harry] into the tent, but as she did so, she brushed the top of his head lightly with her hand. He closed his eyes at her touch, and hated himself for wishing that what she said was true: that Dumbledore had really cared." Deathly Hallows "The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore"I've been wanting to draw this scene ever since I first read it. I love the brother/sister relationship between these two and this scene really shows it well. Harry's upset, thinking Dumbledore didn't care for him after all, and Hermione, with just a small gesture, is reassuring him that she, at least, does love him.
I originally planned to do a sequential drawing for this, starting with them reading the book. But it was over 20 panels and after cutting it down several times, I just decided to go for a single shot. Here's a link to one of the cut-down sequences: [link]

Super epic stuff...
(Amazing how big a space Ron leaves behind, innit?)

the other panels are mostly gestures/stick figures. Once I have some time, I'll get around to cleaning them up a bit and then I'll post them.

Wonderfully done! It was a beautiful scene in the book that illustrated that sometimes, you don't need words to give comfort I especially love the way you left the left side completely white - it makes Harry and Hermione look so small. Fitting, really, seeing as they're just children, trying to win a war

Seriously. I love this so much! So beautiful and tender, and heartwarming in its own way. I love the way you put this little scene to paper - so much emotion and such a great depiction of it. You are right, I think it really captures some of the essence of their relationship. I would never be able to say they have anything more or less than a brother/sister relationship - especially in Deathly Hallows.
Actually, I think that a single shot fits this more than a comic would do. I think that because it's concentrated on that second-long gesture it's more strong this way.

Thank you so much! I thought about this scene over and over for a long time. It was so touching.
I like your opinion on the single shot vs comic. I think you're right--it makes it a little sweeter. The only thing I liked about the comic form was that it showed the build up of anger/despair and the sudden removal of all that from this small gesture. But it reads much better as a single-shot.

is this going to have more panels at some point or will it stay a one panel kind of comic?

I'll probably upload the sketches I did for the whole thing, but it's a bit too much for me to color and finalize at the moment.

This is really beautiful! I just love how you drew this scene, 'cause you can really feel the emotion. And the white background just fits!

Aaaand... I'm a tit. Read my email for further detail.
That being said: This scene is such a bitch. I loved the panels you sent me, and I was not surprised by their mutlitude, because this is one of those moments where not a lot happens AT ALL, yet you need tons and tons of panels to properly grasp the progression of emotions, once you decide to go multi-panel.
It easily could have taken you until christmas. 2011. XD
So, I like what you've done here. The washed-out colourscheme does its job, the positions are natural and not stiff, and as usual, I love how it's instantly recognisable as one of your drawings

lol, you're not a tit. you're a busy working gal.
You're exactly right--the reason I felt I needed the panels was to show the progress of emotion. The anger keeps building up in Harry, reaches a peak and then quickly drops into despair/disappointment, which Hermione, trying to calm her friend and call him out at the same time, attempts to soothe on her way past. It's genius.
"I love how it's instantly recognisable as one of your drawings" that's possibly one of the nicest compliments I've ever had.
