I think for this the best idea would have been to clench the fist you don't draw with and copy it. Needn't make it hard for yourself; if it's easy to get the real thing, use the real one for observation.

And I only realised I was drawing the wrong fist because I thought of it as fist down, forearm exposed, not the other way around.
