Description
(Anyone know what category this should be in?)Happy 101th deviation people! Now you all know how horribly horrible my drawings used to be. They're still not great, but at this rate I should be super fantastically amazing by the year 2052. It's going to be like three dimensional sparkling orgasmic bliss, with technicolors, speedlines, and psuedo realism. Oh yeah, watch out. I'll be one pimpin' 60 year old.
If you want to see some of the better older pictures, check the first couple of pictures in my Scraps .

It's okay to use a reference book to start out, but some of those books are really bad. As long as she's using tutorials from a quality source, she should be fine.

It's not a matter of how long, it's how often. My junior and senior year I hardly drew at all and hence barely improved at all.

The only other advice I have is to follow "How to" guides for bodies and cartoons. After that it's all based on experience, and from the sound of it, you're well on your way!

Oh yeah, you know it. When I was building this timeline, I was rooting through all these old comics where the punchline would be someone shouting, "NANI?!?!" and/or falling over. I couldn't believe I was once proud of that trash, and went around showing it too my friends to boot. I sort of wish I could jump back in time and destroy anime before it ever reached me.
Granted, that would be depriving the world of some amazing gems from Japan, but the world revolves around me anyway so that's okay.

I think I started drawing anime stuff in fourth grade.. I still suck though. e__e I think I threw away my first drawings, which really sucks because they wern't really that bad for my first tries at it.. *u*
Ahaha! O: Katy Coope, yeah! I got the second book to start with though.. not the first. e_e "How to draw MORE manga" All those animes and their annoying dubs from Cartoon Network were a large portion of the influence though. xD Sailor Moon, Tenchi Muyo, Yu Yu Hakusho, Pokemon, .hack//, Gundam.. And then I started watching the anime on Adult Swim after that replaced .hack// and Gundam Seed. D:< Fullmetal Alchemist, Inuyasha, Cowboy Bebop, FOOLY COOLY WOOT!! -appreciates them a little bit more now- Actually, looking back now, I've learned alot not only about drawing and anime, but.. alot of things, since then, and it's probably only been 3-4 years. 8D -younglol-
..Argh. -angst- I miss the "old days". Dx

Oh I remember the days of Tenchi Muyo and .hack//. Fooly Cooly too, that was really entertaining (even though I spent the majority of it going, "HUH?"). And those first 3-4 years are the roughest. You got through them, so now you can work on making your own unique style!

btw, started on anime in fourth grade. I was ruined before you ever were. ' Oh, the shame. And I didn't get out until eighth grade, and the influence. Still. Shows.
Curse you, Sailormoon! And I never used that book.
How...terrible. All on my own. My God, now I have to sulk in a random dark corner and cry over this.

So true, every word: EVERYONE starts off as a crappy artist. But you made very good progress, and -hey!- you managed to draw anime far more successfully than I ever could, so that's a good thing. And Disney eyes are nothing to be ashamed of.
Nice timeline, though. But what happened in between the anime and the first comic is what I want to know. Mind if I steal this concept and make a timeline of my own?
Good job. At age 60 you'll be the coolest grandma in town.

Peppermint-Biscuit In reply to AnimeV [2007-07-16 08:15:50 +0000 UTC]
Oh yeah, make a timeline dating back to fourth grade, it'll be AWESOME! I stole this concept from about 20 other people, so I don't think it'll be too much of an issue. (Until I get 20 lawsuits.)
And though you got into anime at a younger age, I think the year was still the same. I think I'm older than you, so that makes sense a little, right?
And besides, the younger you are when you step into anime, the longer you have to get through the learning curve and form an appreciation for actual, really good anime.

AnimeV In reply to Peppermint-Biscuit [2007-07-18 07:29:40 +0000 UTC]
I would go back to first grade: my mother kept EVERYTHING. Though how good that is up to others and I will not answer that question.
It was already influencing me in second grade! Curse you, Pokemon! Digimon had a helping hand, too, but I have weakness for it, so.... But you're right about the timing. However, I was still younger than you. Le curses, I am evil. (it's so early in the morning TT past 3 here)
.... I don't have much appreciation for anime. I actually have a lot more appreciation for Disney because of it, for some odd reason. Who know how my strange, sleep-begging/deprived mind works. And I still can't draw anime after all that. Funny how life works. Or maybe that was a mixed saying.

Whoa... that's like... how I started and got to where I was... Except at the first part, I was reading Betty and Veronica comics and then discovered anime in seventh grade, too... 0___o" But I never had the book. My friend said that was her older sister that made that book. She helped color a page, though; it was the one with the brick wall or something like that. I don't remember. But anyways, I first got into Inuyasha, then went from there. ALSO, I had a comic with my best friend Jessica, and we did hamsters! D: And cute little puppies and stoof like that. WIERD~
It's great to see yourself improve. I love that feeling of accomplishment when you look back and see how crap you were when you started out, then look forward and see awesomeness.

Peppermint-Biscuit In reply to lurveness [2007-07-16 08:12:09 +0000 UTC]
OH MAN, you indirectly knew the girl who made that book? Tell me, is she filthy rich now? I want to go back in time and make that exact same book before she did and take all the credit for it. And I know exactly which brick wall picture you're referring too. xD
And you also drew a comic based on furry animals? Freaky wierd how similar our pasts were.
And yes, there's something just so reassuring when you look back at last year and know you've accomplished something. It means you'll accomplish something again next year.
