Description

More 1:12 koi ponds, metal tubs, and barrels. Fish made from polymer clay and the water is resin.

These took soooooo long. I probably put in a solid 14 hours on these between part of Tuesday night and all of Wednesday. Everything smells like resin in my craft room so I've had to vacate while the smell clears. But they're finished and completely dried and ready for the show (well, minus the ponds which still need some stones around the edges)! And I love how they turned out, especially the small ones.

I have been looking at your koi ponds for so long and I really want one. But no Paypall so no etsy for me. But they look so amazing. Such detail and grace. And very lifelike. The bigger ones with lily pads are so lovely. And the sand on the bottom just makes them feel so much more real.

where did you find the tubs and barrels?

I ordered them from a wholesale dollhouse supply store online.

do you have a link to that?

You will need a business account and have to make an initial $350 purchase in order to be able to order from them. I'd check out Hobby Lobby's dollhouse section (or any craft store that has a dollhouse section) first to see if maybe you can find something similar.

They r so good. Better than the ones I Β make... do you use translucent clay for there fins? And how do you get Β the coloring on the fish to look like it's a part of the clay fish?

Thank you!

I have a miniature show in June so I will be making more at that time. I even found some new miniature containers to work with, so there will be some brand new ones in there as well.

I love koi ponds, big and small. These are really cool
And you must have a lot of patience to sculpt all of those delicate Koi.

A couple months ago I saw some of those mini metal tubs at a craft store and thought they would make great portable ponds for an urban dollhouse garden or something, but I since haven't gotten into resin yet, most of the ones I bought will probably be cute rustic styled planters instead. ~So I laughed a little when I saw that you made Koi ponds out of them. XD

PepperTreeArt In reply to Kyle-Lefort [2014-03-12 17:55:02 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! They're not so bad to make once you get used to it.

Just a word of caution if you plan on using the tubs like this - SEAL THE BOTTOMS. I didn't and didn't realize they had gaps in them. I spent about an hour the first set prying them off my tile where they had stuck. The little buckets leak like crazy, too. A coat of glue stops anything from leaking though.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kyle-Lefort In reply to PepperTreeArt [2014-03-14 19:55:12 +0000 UTC]

It's definitely a new medium for me, so I'm waiting until I can devote some real time into trying it out.

They don't look like they have gaps, I couldn't really tell how the bottoms were attached though-Thanks for the tip. I'm already sealing the paper bowls I make, so that shouldn't be a problem.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

PepperTreeArt In reply to Kyle-Lefort [2014-03-16 13:35:12 +0000 UTC]

Some look pretty airtight, but once you pour anything in them it slowly seeps out. If you bought the buckets the bottoms are porous and after a few minutes the resin starts to collect on the bottom.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kyle-Lefort In reply to PepperTreeArt [2014-03-18 01:03:27 +0000 UTC]

I might just go seal them now, so I don't have to wait when I end up using them for something later.
I didn't get any of the buckets, so no worries there.

Thank you! These have almost all sold (there is only one bucket one left in my shop). I did make some new ones for the show this weekend, though, so I'll have them up sometime tomorrow.

Is it the photo or have you actually made some of them look like the water is rippling? If you have made the rippling can you tell me how? I love the small ones the best.Β

PepperTreeArt In reply to areichard1 [2014-03-02 01:34:37 +0000 UTC]

It might be a reflection of the vertical blinds on the resin.

I really, really love these! OvO I was wondering if you made the little buckets/metal tubs/ponds yourself as well? Also, \ could you could tell me how you know something is on a 1:12, 1:24, etc. scale and how you are able to make sure your miniatures are that size? Thanks. ^^Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

PepperTreeArt In reply to MoochieBumm [2014-02-18 14:33:08 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I did not make the containers myself. The only ones I make are the pebble covered ponds.

I usually look up how large things are on average and scale it down. I also use plates to make sure my foods are the right size, as well as a printable 1:12 scale doll.

I think I used it when I did some sort of Christmas project when I was..4? I have the results and it's pretty terrible looking. XD
