Description Full view is recommended.

I'm drawing a beautiful friend of mine, Sandra.

About 4 more hours or so. 17 total.

I am trying my very best here. I want it to be my best.

I'm starting to be happy with the facial textures and such, but I'm not happy with the hair at all. So I will have to go over it again once I've finished her face. I know what needs to be done so don't wory .

Graphite pencils on paper.
Size: Full drawing 29x45cmm. This scan shows 20x29 cm.

Mechanical pencils H and 2b 0,5mm
Hb,2b Faber Castell pencils
Kneaded eraser
Blending stumps

Thanks a lot in advance for all your comments and 's . I'll be back to answer them as soon as I can.

Cheers!

can't believe "i'm not happy with the hair..." cause if i could draw hair like that, i'd be jumping for joy.
actually i've been observing this pic to try and get a feel for natural realistic hair so i think the hair is well done.
But i know wot you mean, if you think you can do better and something doesn't look rite, you wouldn't be happy. But I think it looks great

Even though YOU may not be happy with the hair, I sure as hell love it! It looks so real. And almost like a breeze is blowing through it.
Wow. Now you're almost finished. And, may I add, it looks absolutely fabulous! I can't wait for the finished work.

Thank you! yes that was the idea with the hair. I will just try to make it look even more real .

Almost finished you say ... I'm faaaaar from it This scan doesn't show the whole drawing. I have about 800 square centimeters left to fill! lol

Wow. You can make that hair look even more real? I don't doubt you, but it looks so great it's hard to believe.

Wowsa. That much? Well, if it were me doing this it would take me another ten years to finish. And it wouldn't even be half as good as yours.

Exceptionally fine work! I'm especially impressed with the teeth, which are so hard to render well. I think the fine strands of hair are great, and also very much like your work on the lips.

Your friend makes a great model and I'm sure it's going to be a stunning image when complete.

Have you tried photographing your drawings instead of scanning them? Between the two I find that photos in Black and White mode give results closer to the original than a scan will.

Thank you very much!.

Yeah I have thought about it, but it feels allmost like cheating when taking a photo of it. Because it looks blurry which makes the drawing look more like a photo. I love how it looks in real life but when scanning it you can see every single stroke I've made with my pencils and that's not so good either.
A camera see the drawing more like the eye do, so maybe I should take photos instead, I don't know. I have to think about it .

It's Sarah!

No but really, it is starting to look less like Sarah now that you have more of her face done. Looks amazing so far!!!

the nose is great but there is something wrong with the brow, also the skin above her left eye (our right) transisitons from dark to light too quickly as far as i can tell. The forehead looks a bit muggy to me (sorry for the harsh critque mate)

But i havent see the ref so you might be drawing it correctly.

The cheek, eyes and nose are fantastic though. Other than what i mentioned its look great so far.

Take care, SB

P.s. i thought the hair was pretty good, but then again im awful with hair.

You have a good eye my friend. Thank you for taking the time to give me some critique. As usual I get critique on things I havn't finished yet, and I allready knew those things but as I said you have a very good eye. You see things like I do and without the ref. I think the only thing that might be finished so far would be the nose. I need to draw her whole face before I can fix those things.

Cheers!

hehe i figured you'd have seen them. Im glad you took the critique well, some people get very defensive. I always say that id rather have a comment that is useful rather than "wow" or "fantastic" (not that i'd complain if more came my way! )

I think the "good eye" comes from staring at a ref and a drawing for hours and hours on end! Its quite strange because when i'm talking to people im often thinking 'how can get that eye colour in pencil' or 'how can i get that texture on her lips'. Great for art, bad for conversations

Take care, and i look forward to the next wip

Before I read your comment I was going to say how much I liked the hair - I think it's looking really good! Your right though, the facial texture is excellent. Great work, can't wait to see the finished drawing.
