Pinkie Pie and Braeburn had been aware of each other for almost as long as Pinkie Pie and Applejack had been friends, however they only started seeing each other frequently when semi-competitive buckball became a pastime for the both of them. Not a huge amount of talking happened between the rival teams, but they did chat between plays and found themselves looking forward to matches more and more. Pinkie Pie liked Braeburn’s eager attitude and boundless energy, and Braeburn saw the same in her, though he found her a bit wild. Okay she wasn’t a bit wild, she was weird, and scared him a little. ...He’d always liked things that scared him a little.

Pinkie Pie and Braeburn were both naturally in attendance at Applejack and Rainbow Dash’s wedding, serving as a bridesmare and bridesman respectively, Pinkie on Rainbow’s side and Braeburn on Applejack’s. Their gazes kept drifting to each other throughout the ceremony, as they stood before this union of love, all dressed up in their nicest darn outfits, and... weeeell once the ceremony was over and the party started, with everyone all mixed up, the music blaring, and all eyes on the newly weds and none on them, Pinkie and Braeburn maybe kiiiiiinda disappeared to the barn by themselves for a little while but nopony noticed so they have plausible deniability!

The earth ponies became crazy about each other overnight and their relationship got serious fast, finding themselves moving in together in the recently established town of Takhi—situated right between Appleoosa and Ponyville, a reasonable-to-take-twice-a-day train ride from both towns, allowing each to comfortably keep their jobs—and soon after that they were married! Six months to the day after AJ and Dash. Yeah, even they agree it might have been a little crazy—but what’s love if not crazy?

Oh and on the Apple family possibly being related to the Pie family... they canonically couldn’t find a relation going back generations upon generations. If their families are related, it’s in that way that every couple in a small enough town has a couple of ancestors in common. Y’know, that way that doesn’t matter
