...Look what’s become of me.

In my headcanon, Mahali (‘Spotty’) and Doa (‘Dotty’) are sisters, and Mraba (‘Beauty-Spot’) is their cousin. They were born to single mothers, sired by rogues, and all three girls were born Pridelanders. Being Pridelanders, they knew Simba and Nala, and sometimes played together as cubs. The three were never close enough to prince and his betrothed to really call them friends—but they had nothing against them, either.

Not long after Simba’s ‘death’, both Mraba’s and the twins’ mothers were killed in a botched hunt. A gaggle of hyenas had pushed in on Sarabi’s hunting party, causing the zebras they were after to see them and panic, and eventually two lionesses were trampled in the chaos. In the blink of an eye, the three girls were all alone in the world.

Seeing an opportunity, Scar swooped the cubs under his wing. He and Zira stepped in as parental figures, distancing them from the rest of the pride (who might try to explain that their parents’ deaths were, ultimately, the fault of Scar’s mismanagement). Mahali, Doa, and Mraba grew into loyal followers of Scar and Zira, the only lions—as far as they could tell—who had bothered to care for them in their time of need.
