Deep breaths, deep breaths, you can do this, you have to do this! Dawn Meadows coached herself as the boom and scrape of the footsteps grew ever closer. When they reached their zenith, the intrepid reporter braced herself for danger to come barrelling through the doorway. But barrelling through danger did not come. The sound stopped and things got very quiet. It was all she could do but suppress an agonizing whimper at the suspense. Dawn focused on her breathing, trying to get it under control. Maybe they got lucky, and he did not hear Emily sneeze? Oh thank goodness, that was really clo-- Before Dawn could finish that positive thought, the door smacked open with terrifying velocity and a brutish goon came barrelling through.

Dawn reacted and pounded with her tiny balled up fists. The goon flinched and dodged but whatever Dawn had hoped to accomplish, it was never going to be enough. He snarled angrily grabbing at her wrist.

"Hey! No! Stop!" Dawn protested. His response was to violently twist her arm behind her back, sending a lancing pain shooting up into her shoulder. "Ahhhh!" she shrieked in surprise.

"I'll take this if you don't mind," the goon spoke in gruff tones snatching the cell phone out of Dawn's free hand.

"Wait! NO!!!" Dawn cried out in frustration as the device was plucked away and dropped into his coat pocket. She struggled against his grip and was rewarded with a swift yank on her twisted arm. The sensation made her see bright spots before her eyes. She tilted her head back letting out an agonizing groan. The pain was so severe it stole the functionality from her legs. Her knees buckled, threatening to drop her where she stood, but she was cruelly held in place by his vice like grip. "Emily... run!" Dawn managed a pathetic warning cry that devolved into a sob of anguish.

Emily turned to bolt, when the goon's arm shot out, ensnaring itself in her thick red ponytail. She tried to wriggle free, but he clenched tightly and yanked, sending fire shooting through her scalp. "Owwwwww!!!" she cried out in agony.

"Just where do you think you're going, darling?" the goon asked, holding Emily in place by her hair while he regarded Dawn. He glanced up and down the side of her face, leaning in close to her long blonde hair. The smell of fear was coming off her. Her desperate whimpers were meek, telling him the pain had finally driven the fight out of her.

"So if 'Miss After School Special' here is Emily Lockwood... then who does that make you blondie?" the goon whispered into Dawn's ear, but all she managed in reply was a weak groan.
