by making a movie clip, its like having an animation in an animation.

press F8 and select movie clip to convert something into a movie clip
double click on it to go into the movie clip

Cool tutorial, but theres a problem with mine, when I test the thing, the person falls right through the ground, is there anythin to stop that?

person333 In reply to Cinos-the-Ferret [2008-11-30 02:08:13 +0000 UTC]

did you give the ground the instance name of "ground"
if it still doesnt work its probably cause this is in actionscript 1

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Cinos-the-Ferret In reply to person333 [2008-11-30 08:23:45 +0000 UTC]

Nah, it still doesnt work, and I'm using Actionscript 2 I think.

yup, each time you expand it (bring it to the right) with a {
you have to add a } to close it.

onClipEvent (load) {
//this determines how far he has to fall
fallheight = 500;
//this makes sure he respawns where he first was
original_x_pos = _x;
original_y_pos = _y;
}
onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
//this checks if he is further down than he should be
if (_y>=fallheight) {
//and resets him
_x = original_x_pos;
_y = original_y_pos;
}
}

I kinda wanted to ask you to be my mentor but i would need to be able to rely on being able to comuncate at a set time

Thank you i shal put this info in my programer notes can i ask what } those stand for i believe they enclose things but idk
I see i can replace onClipEvent(_____) with other things hmm wow i have a lot of work to do..... Do you know any sites that could help i got like 25 links but most of them just say copy this paste it here and your done but i have figured out one little coding
How did you learn?

person333 In reply to cloudwindgate [2008-11-17 07:14:02 +0000 UTC]

sure i can help.
i slowly learnt flash from various internet tutorials, Ive had it for about 3 years.

by the way, i can only really help you if you use flash MX (as1), cause that's what i use.

cloudwindgate In reply to person333 [2008-11-18 04:21:19 +0000 UTC]

well i use flash mx but im not sure if its expecialy action script 1?? And i would love the help expecialy since i have to learn it by the end of this school year. So any links to good tutorials and such would be a great help. Thank-you once more and i will gladly ask you for advice and help if you willing to awser it so can you explain
onClipevent is for and what it chages if i put (load) instead of (enterframe)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

person333 In reply to cloudwindgate [2008-11-18 05:06:39 +0000 UTC]

flash MX only uses as1

(load) makes the function happen once.
eg. if you want to set some variables or change a frame

(enterframe) makes the event happen every frame.
eg. gravity, you need the character to fall a little bit each frame
or. checking for a hittest every frame

person333 In reply to cloudwindgate [2008-11-19 05:02:14 +0000 UTC]

nice tut : D

but I`ve got a few quiestions:
1) i added a new layer for the ground and set the center of the movieclip on the top . still is my char only standing in the middle of the ground. (my chara`s center is on the ground) why? D:

2) if i press left or right my char skips a few centimetres to the opposite direction before walking. again why? D:

thank you for your help C:

person333 In reply to rinshin [2008-09-05 23:04:34 +0000 UTC]

make sure the center of the characters movieclip is in the middle down the bottom.

the reason the character jumps a bit is because the center is off to the side and it flips from that point.
