Description The subject of the weather has long shaped the content of everyday conversation. The eighteenth-century writer Samuel Johnson famously remarked ‘It is commonly observed, that when two Englishmen meet, their first talk is of the weather; they are in haste to tell each other, what each must already know, that it is hot or cold, bright or cloudy, windy or calm.

Representations of the sun and sky dominate the expanse of the Turbine Hall. A fine mist permeates the space, as if creeping in from the environment outside. Throughout the day, the mist accumulates into faint, cloud-like formations, before dissipating across the space. A glance overhead, to see where the mist might escape, reveals that the ceiling of the Turbine Hall has disappeared, replaced by a reflection of the space below. At the far end of the hall is a giant semi-circular form made up of hundreds of mono-frequency lamps. The arc repeated in the mirror overhead produces a sphere of dazzling radiance linking the real space with the reflection.

A friedn of mine went to see this live and said it was worth all the hype so don't listen to people who say it's a waste of time. As for this particular photo...very well done indeed. This shows far more depth than any of the pictures I have seen published in the UK on the same project. Nice one! X

I was in London a few weeks ago and visited the Tate Modern. Your picture truly captures the mood, although it was even more impressive in real life...

Didn't really like the rest of the museum though...

Anyway, great deviation! I will +fav it now.

This was the main attraction, of course... I only spent a little time in the other exhibition halls, because I also wanted to take the Tate-to-Tate boat back to the Tate Britain... they had a pre-raphaelite painting exhibition there.
It included work of John Everett Millais, one of my favourite painters.

Anyway, hope you exjoyed staying in London. I know I did!

we just walked down the thames from namco station taking photo's on the way, then arrived at tate modern, after that went to picadilly..

Valken In reply to pete-aeiko [2004-03-18 16:12:43 +0000 UTC]

Yes, there was this boat connection between the two Tate buildings... it also stopped at the london Eye, but I'd been there before...

Believe it or not, I forgot my camera! So... no shots. Did see lots of photo's though. I visited all kinds of exhibitions and stuff. Several one were devoted to photography.

print must have got accepted or something, cos there is 2 sections one for print and one for art.

I've seen a report on Euronews about this place. sadly I live in Portugal and I don't have the means to go there...but it really must be an extraordinary experience...do you really feel hot just because of the light?

this is an absolutely incredible shot....i am reminded of certain scenes in the bladerunner movie where the light ambience was similar in the orange/yellow warmth....i now regret that i was not able to see this when i went to london several years ago on vacation....keep up the good work!

honestly: ur 2D and abstract work is good.. but this suxx

I've seen a thousand better shots of that same project ..
I don't blame u for getting so many favs ( tho I think it's not logical :/ )

So I think you better stick to ur abstract style and leave photography like it is.

no hard feelings dude
