Description
The subject of the weather has long shaped the content of everyday conversation. The eighteenth-century writer Samuel Johnson famously remarked ‘It is commonly observed, that when two Englishmen meet, their first talk is of the weather; they are in haste to tell each other, what each must already know, that it is hot or cold, bright or cloudy, windy or calm.Representations of the sun and sky dominate the expanse of the Turbine Hall. A fine mist permeates the space, as if creeping in from the environment outside. Throughout the day, the mist accumulates into faint, cloud-like formations, before dissipating across the space. A glance overhead, to see where the mist might escape, reveals that the ceiling of the Turbine Hall has disappeared, replaced by a reflection of the space below. At the far end of the hall is a giant semi-circular form made up of hundreds of mono-frequency lamps. The arc repeated in the mirror overhead produces a sphere of dazzling radiance linking the real space with the reflection.

i see pete's gettin a lot of negative feedback on this piece, and every opinion and comment is equally completely valid in its own right. but i've seen a lot of suckier pictures in DA as a whole- as for wirestyle specifically, i think this ones a big step up from his other photos.
in the respect of the weather project itself, people have given links to other photography submissions of that project, but actually - and they are all very, very well done - you may think these might be 'better' , but you might want to consider different styles when you give them rank.
for me, i can't put pete's photo in the same category as the other photos of the weather project, because they have a completely different feel. it seems like the other photos really focus on the lamps as a subject (the idea of having a fake sun, the reflection, etc), when pete's photo gives a setting, an entire feel, a surreal placing.
and for the cut-downs that say this piece is complete junk (though intentions were to not be offensive...?)... ive seen a lot crappier submissions around here.

Yeah i am thinking that people don't know what the picture is of. I have seen this in the tate and really this picture dose not do it for me. If it was done by anyone else (A newbe) it would not have as meny favs. And as the other dude said "No hard Feelings dude"

totally sweet and disorientating.... I stared at the "ceiling" for a good 3-4 mins.
I love the type, but the seperation of the left and right on the second line is too strong. maybe do a seperator like - or |

i remember when i was in TATE in 2002-- this entry hall had another sample-exhibit or whatever youd like to call it. there was normal lighting, and when you got down to the bottom of that long slope entry, you look up and there was this huge flat wooden sculpture thing on the ceiling-- it was made to look like abstract levels of a building i thought, with abstract people (white manakin-like) in it, maybe half of their body standing in a hallway on this upper level above your head... strange things like this. i dunno, it was interesting... i guess... but it was old and dusty... and.... bah.
but this... this is completely different... wow. this really has boosted tate i think, something very new and modern. your photo really has captured that, it has a kind of surreal effect, and makes me feel like its a completely different planet... or desert-like. its so strange because there is so much light, except there really isnt, because everything (other than the lamps) ... is so dark.
as for a photo critique-- the people in your piece really help it out, the shapes of their bodies are like silhouettes- which works really well in this. you did a wonderful job with composition, neatly arranged... which, i feel, helps out with that surreal effect. the fact that there are limited amount of colors also adds to that. this photo radiates weird, surreal, technical, warmth... all at the same time. this is great, it is a nice addition to your abstract digital art, it seems (unlike some of the other photos youve submitted) to go along with your gallery. excellent work.
...haha wow got a little carried away with that comment there. haha

This is a great photo indeed, where the yellow/orange fill almost everything.
You should take more photos.
