Description
the Balkanization of China after the Chinese Revolution of 2049 by the United Nations' governance alongside various allied powers, resulted in significant repatriation of Chinese-ethnic peoples, especially in the Far-west and Southwest of China, where minorities were treated their own nations, if not expansions to ones that already existed. the Southern Chinese Army (aided initially by Taiwan) was divided along ethnic lines, with Taiwan feeling rather surprised that it got all of the major Minnan ethnic territories. Many Chinese felt incredibly bitter about the loss of China's dominance in the east, others were just happy they had freedoms now that the People's Republic was gone. The ethnolinguistic divides between the Chinese states did not last all that long beyond government tensions, with it felt all but the Minnan Federal Republic feeling that they should eventually expand and grow into the next China. However, through thorough economic investments and propaganda, a new generation was born into a vulnerable world, and decided that they don't need to unite, feeling proud of the current state they were in. But, talks began about forming a compact similar to others in the western hemisphere. Hui and Guongfuian were the most hesitant to join Zhonghua in anything, due to the history of attacking Hong Kong in the south, and Muslims in the west. Hui remained tightly allied to Uyghurstan, who absolutely despised all Zhonghua stood for, despite the fact that they have made it perfectly clear they are not the PRC. Eventually however, the League of Shanghai was formed as a military and economic alliance of autonomous states bound to keeping the West out of their affairs. the Minnan however was the last to join, as they were in the middle of a minor revolt of their own; many on the mainland felt that this was just Taiwan as an occupying force-- which it was. Taiwan's democracy was under threat due to supposed corruption and such, even before they were gifted their new territories by the UN, and the government of Taiwan felt that they were more important that the Mainlanders, that somehow they should be punished for being associated with the People's Republic, and that they could significantly effect votes and remove people already in power. This would not stand, and even many people in Taiwan itself assisted in ousting the government in Taipei. It worked, and the President worked with the revolutionaries at the threat of gunpoint to completely 'flush' the current representative system, instate rapid democratic anti-bureaucratic reforms, and move the republic's capital to Quanzhou (alternatively spelled Chin-Chew if you're an asshole)Mongolia is still trying to work out the far more populous Inner Mongolia now being a part of their republic, and the political and social differences between the two groups, with one being far more developed in terms of urban infrastructure and thus, their population just skyrocketed.
the Hmong and Mien, typically nomadic peoples, had fought hard for their freedoms and rights against China in the Miao Freedom Army, and thus were won their own states. Many Hmong performed exoduses from Laos and Vietnam, as well as some other Hmong diasporas in the United States and elsewhere, to their new homeland. Tujia felt surprised to even be seeing any attention from the UN; their population had refused to fight in China's war, and fended off attackers from the South, but did not actively engage in the war and would have conceded to whoever won. However, they were granted their own country, and they really didn't know what to do with themselves. Now, they're home to one of the world's most progressive democracies on Earth.
Japan had gone through some strange political tensions as well as an economic depression during the 2030s, coming out of it with a full-fledged military, and a renewed vigor and zest for life. Their economy once again boomed, but this time with some more financial care and tact from the government. the Japanese were surprised to hear South Korea asking for help with a full invasion of the North, and it was no-one's surprise to see and hear that the Japanese-SoKor offensive was voctorious and then some. Japan only helped so far as taking the north, but Korean-ethnic regions north of the border of the now-united Korea were also seized by the South. The military districts in those regions were later formed into fully democratic states, after thorough educations were given to the citizens there. Although political divides among voters were still extreme and, eventually, almost completely along north-south lines, this changed with the passing of the generations and the appeals to northern interests by the government in Seoul. This resulted in slight revisions to the Constitution of Korea in 2067, marking the beginning of the Seventh Republic. The protests which led to these changes were labeled as the Northern Struggle, with only one riot ever being cited, in the city of Haeju.
the Nuoso (also called Yi) and Tibetans were very happy to be free of China, after militant struggles of their own in those regions. the Nuoso Population Boom was a significant period after the UN Chinese Repatriations of 2050 which saw the population of the Nuoso tipple over a period of 2 and a half decades.
Burobidzhan is the second Jewish country on Earth, next to the rather obvious Israel. It was the Jewish Autonomous Oblast in Russia, and housed a majority of the Russian-Jewish and Yiddish populations of Russia. It has also seen a population spike from other Yiddish people across Europe and Asia, and many Israelis also moved there to bolster up the Burobidzhani population to create a Jewish bulwark in Eastern Asia.
