Description
city streetsdotted with the
congregation of a million souls.
thoughts, words, voices;
promises spoken,
promises unspoken.
doubts, fears, and worries;
all about me, rings humanity
within the confines of city blocks,
concrete pavement,
row houses and urban parks.
the faces change
as though tossed about,
sprinkled with haphazard precision.
men and women,
children with parents,
lovers with each other.
walking underneath the monoliths,
seeking refuge from the rain inside
coffee shops, nightclubs,
and themselves.
the faces remain the same.
the same philadelphia,
destined to change
and not to change.
a shifting cast of characters
within this grand stage called life.
we brush shoulders without you knowing.
i do not mind, i am just as lost
within my own thoughts as you are.
perhaps that's what links us
together within the chapter pages
of a story yet being told.
you and i still put pen to paper
and still see the scrawling
manifest upon the wall.
there are many pages left to tell
and much to be said about us both.
and so i lift my eyes toward
the landmarks
i have come to expect seeing
within the confines of
brick and mortar,
steel and macadam,
cars and smog and subway systems.
philadelphia,
we shall tell one another stories
and both strive toward
that final page together.

Beautiful poem, this strikes me as something Shakespeare would write, but you are a quite an excellent person to channel the bard, and of course, you have a style quite uniquely your own.

why thank you. quite the compliment, to have any correlation to the eternal bard himself. i could only aspire to his level.
i am glad you enjoyed it.
