you kissed mequickly
as though to taunt me
before you wrapped your arms around me
and pressed your head against my chest
'promise me,' you said,
'it will be like this forever'
i could no more promise you tomorrow
than i could the day that followed.
yet still, i said it.
'i promise you i'll always hold you
the way i hold you now, dear.'
the glint of sunshine
as it rained upon your brown hair
creating an ethereal shimmer
only heaven could have fashioned
you looked angelic when
emerald eyes found mine again
and the smile enveloped your face
making the air around us grow
just a bit warmer
just a bit more sensual
i could have held you
like that forever
and kept such a promise
remaining happy all the while
as fingers brushed through your locks
and your smile
consumed me with emotions
men such as i rarely experience
broken contracts notwithstanding
i still hold you in such a manner
within the portal
of my dreams
you still smile
in that tempting manner
when you behold me
in my mind's eye
that teasing kiss, a precursor
to many evenings which followed
of embraces
much less taunting
and much more satisfying
standing in the sun with you
melting into you until
there was no distinction
between our souls
