Description watched a man walk with a woman
both huddled underneath an umbrella
with her arms around his waist
and his arm around her shoulders
and i thought of you

saw two people walk past one another
her eyes raising toward his
and his intersecting with hers
two complete strangers
suddenly, not strangers at all
and i thought of you

i thought about closeness
about the way two bodies find warmth
with one another
the way two hearts merge
to form one
two sets of eyes converge
and everything makes sense
in that millisecond of time
the world itself fades away
and all that's left is one woman
and one man
and that's all that matters

i watched a family run down the street
the man holding a boy in his arms
the woman holding her daughter's hand
racing in-between raindrops
to find shelter within a store
to find shelter within themselves
and i thought of you

witnessed a crowd of people
with different faces
different names; different lifestyles
different hopes, different dreams
holding hands, holding onto what
mattered most within their worlds
and i thought of you

and i was instantly jealous
because i wanted
to protect you from the rain
to gaze into your eyes
to hold a child within my arms
to hold you closely to my heart
walking lockstep with
the rhythm of life being played out
like ordinary mortals do
to be the one being gazed upon wistfully
by a stranger strolling down the street
dodging raindrops alone
wishing he could be
dodging raindrops
with you.

i thought about you
and wondered if you
thought about me, too.

I really really love this one. I don't really know what else to say but I love it.

If I ever see something lacking I'd tell you. I'm a very inexperienced writer though, so sometimes I don't get things that make perfect sense to others (although I haven't had that problem with reading your poems)

Thank you. I consider that quite the compliment.
If there's ever anything you don't get, that is fair game for criticism as well.

thanks so much for this piece. i truly enjoyed it. it brings me back to my first love. i actually ran into him a few days ago with his ex and memories flooded back into my mind. this was an excellently-written piece and im sure many people can relate to it.

I am delighted that you enjoyed it. Yes, I'm certain in some way or another we all can become lost within 'wish I was' and 'if only I could', especially while watching the world around us. (Or, for that matter, considering those dearest to us.) It makes me glad, and yet saddened, that others can relate.

How beautiful hopeful romantic yet sad, I love it There is always one scene that makes my eyes water when I see it in real life. It is when an older "senior" couple are holding hands and walking together. I have always wanted to grow old with my true love.

That image has always struck a chord with me as well.
Before my parents died, they were starting to ascend into their later years. My mother was yet very young-looking for her age, but my father had started to gray a bit and days spent outside took their toll. However, every time he took hold of my mother's hand, it was as though five years washed from his face. I could picture them well into their eighties, sitting together with the same thing happening after my father took hold of my mother's hand.
They died far too soon.

Thank you for indulging my romantic sadness. I appreciate the favorite as well.
I've not thought so far as aging further with my beloved. I would just like to see her again.

The first six months after my husband died, I hated going to the mall. There were too many couples there, and families with dads carrying their children on their shoulders. The pain was unbearable. This line brought those memories back most sharply: to be the one being gazed upon wistfully
by a stranger strolling down the street Excellent piece, Peter. Well done... and deeply touching.

Thank you, my dear.
I can imagine it seems like the world is nothing but a set of couples, out to deliberately flaunt their happiness, when in the throes of such pain.

Yes indeed. As though the world insists on reminding one he or she is -- well -- one.

Quite so. Stayed in tonight for that reason. Good fodder for poetry, not as great for my disposition. Even if I do favor taking walks.

Robin wishes me to assist him with a computer anyway.
No man is alone who has friends, right?

Yes, in everyday life we do take alot for granted... This is wonderful. I can picture in my mind every word, every action. And I can feel the longing to be with someone.. Wonderfully done.

Thank you once again, Sabrina. You're a constant supporter. I appreciate that immensely.

Heard a song last night. Sounded like something you might appreciate. "Daisy"?
Immediately identified with this line:
". . . my sweet Daisy loved the hell out of me. . ."

Walks are good for several things, I suppose.
