Ah, "stick in the mud" is a euphemism meaning "dull, boring, unexciting" et cetera.

*chortles* The many wondrous uses of ice cream. Not just for noses.
Based upon a specific memory. Must confess, though. . . I wouldn't have minded licking it off other places.

Little glimpses like this remind me: Once upon a time you were a teenage boy with all those dorky sappy sentimentalities. Makes me want to lick ice cream off you too.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

peterdawes In reply to denlm [2008-02-29 19:56:38 +0000 UTC]

*perks an eyebrow* Is that an invitation?

I must confess, I wasn't a teenage boy when this happened, but it doesn't make it any less dorky or sappy. She has that affect upon me.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

denlm In reply to peterdawes [2008-02-29 20:55:51 +0000 UTC]

I didn't think you were; the teenager was simply peeking through, reminding us he did and still does exist under the right conditions.

peterdawes In reply to denlm [2008-02-29 22:22:57 +0000 UTC]

The gangly boy with raging hormones? Heaven help us all.

Truth be known, not much has changed since those days, aside from the homicidal insanity. He still throws the same temper tantrums as well. The more things change. . . right?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

denlm In reply to peterdawes [2008-03-01 00:20:34 +0000 UTC]

Change is actually a misnomer. Revision is more like it. Same story, same character, a little better punctuation and grammar.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

peterdawes In reply to denlm [2008-03-01 21:50:00 +0000 UTC]

I await the incarnation of me that is a bit better punctuated. Perhaps accompanied by a period, following 'And they lived happily ever after.'
But you're right, a tiger rarely changes its stripes. It astonishes me the same boy who kicked against the goads is still the man who throws a foot at them today.

The poet reigns even here: I await the incarnation of me that is a bit better punctuated. Perhaps accompanied by a period, following 'And they lived happily ever after.'

Once again, the teenage boy speaks. He still believes in fairy tales.

My, when did I become so fucking cynical?

I plead an extremely sentimental mood at the time. Been rummaging through the box of memories and it sprang forth from there.

Ahh yes I see ^^ I've noticed that your signature is Nietzsche -nodds in approval- I wrote an essay on him not too long ago XD

peterdawes In reply to azrael1984 [2008-02-29 19:54:43 +0000 UTC]

Nietzsche was quite the astute man. There are several of his quotes I fancy.
Alas. . . Nietzsche is dead.

azrael1984 In reply to peterdawes [2008-03-02 10:47:28 +0000 UTC]

XD I did a 4000 word research paper on him and Sartre ^^ I'd be very embarassed if after all that I didn't know "God is dead"

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

peterdawes In reply to azrael1984 [2008-03-02 15:15:56 +0000 UTC]

Sartre is another intriguing philosopher. I know precious little about him in particular, however.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

azrael1984 In reply to peterdawes [2008-03-02 15:27:03 +0000 UTC]

Well, I've technically only read one essay by Sartre but I think I understand his existentialism well enough...he's quite an interesting person as well, but Nietzsche was more of a Romantic than Sartre was.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

peterdawes In reply to azrael1984 [2008-03-03 11:28:44 +0000 UTC]

Took Philosophy in college and didn't really learn much from it. I was already skeptical about life, the universe, and everything. I would have been better off reading Douglas Adams.
Sartre was a bit dry for my taste.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

azrael1984 In reply to peterdawes [2008-03-03 12:11:23 +0000 UTC]

XD Well, to be fair the only thing I ever read by him was Existentialism is a Humanism. ^^ Which isn't exactly very long. And having the most awesome English teacher in the world helps XD I quite like Existentialism as a philosophy though. Taking responsibility for one's own actions and all of that...but yes, not quite as poetic as Nietzsche XD The worse for dryness is Camus though I think <.<

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

peterdawes In reply to azrael1984 [2008-03-04 11:57:04 +0000 UTC]

A good teacher can turn something dull and mundane into something interesting and compelling. I ponder existentialism and issue it a bit cheekily at times. However, there are aspects of it I can leave and aspects I can nod in agreement with. Personal responsibility is certainly one of them.
Camus, I can take in very, very small doses. And with all razor blades and cyanide locked away.

azrael1984 In reply to peterdawes [2008-03-04 16:07:26 +0000 UTC]

XD We had to study Camus' "The Outsider" (I think it's also been translated as The Stranger) for our world lit option in english (-_-) It was very frustrating - especially seeing as I'd a.) already read it before anyway and b.) was also studying it in French. Argh!! Overdose of Camus XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

peterdawes In reply to azrael1984 [2008-03-06 03:26:05 +0000 UTC]

Yes, too much Camus - especially The Stranger - will grow tiresome quickly. I've only ever read him for leisure.
Well, if you can consider that leisure.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

azrael1984 In reply to peterdawes [2008-03-06 13:16:14 +0000 UTC]

Hahahaaa XD The only time I read him for leisure was the first time I read The Stranger (and was young and naive and didn't know it'd be so bloody dry) Lol I've tried reading The Rebel too. And The Plague. I like The Plague better than The Stranger, but really. How does one manage to write an essay on rebellion and make it so awfully dry?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

peterdawes In reply to azrael1984 [2008-03-06 13:36:51 +0000 UTC]

I've only ever read The Stranger. Thumbed through another selection or two of his, but decided against it.

Right now, reading for leisure includes Fight Club and American Psycho. Well, shortly. Have placed an order for them.

I have read neither but have heard much about both ^^ Currently I'm sort of juggling between Rebel Angels which is part of a trilogy about Victorian school girls who sort of discover this other realm and stuff, and Stardust ^^ A lot of fantasy going on at the moment Lol
