Description your face looks familiar somehow
a story so old
i might have forgotten
yet there is something about
the gentle sway of your hips
the sultry tenor to your dance
that has me spellbound

did we live another life together?

perhaps your name was too sweet
for my memories to contain
perhaps the angels borrowed it
to sing the ocean's song
and stole it from my mind
perhaps i loved it far too much
to carry it into death
all i know is
your face
has captured my attention

you ask if i remember you

lying beside you
wanting you with every fiber
of my being
of course i remember
but i do not recall just the same
you have one of those faces
those smiles
that hypnotic stare
that no man could ever forget
and yet i do not know you.

linger with me, precious.
help me to recall.

i am desperate for you
as night sinks into day
and day slips into night
i try to hold you
but you slip away
like the currents of the sea
you fade into the darkness
the pull of the moon
having greater force
than the pull of our love for one another

i will remember you

with my last breaths
sinking into time
drowning in the tides
even if i cannot recall
i will remember
and cry your name into the ocean
as i pray for fate to take me
into your arms again.

yes, dearest
i do remember you
and as death draws you back
into the waves that brought you to me
i must ask you, just the same;
when you cross into
the other side
will you still
remember me as well?

I knew almost from the start what inspired this. You captured the tenor of that story so very very well. My favorite stanza: "perhaps i loved it far too much to carry it into death..." That would be an excuse any woman would accept, even from beyond the grave.

It must be some "vampiric" connection that your words speak so eloquently to my soul. Just beautiful....

The 'that' in the first stanza could be 'which' or something else. I am peevy about 'that'. lol

But wonderfully done, yet again dear.

beautiful. it reminds me of annabelle lee by edgar allen poe - but in my personal opinion, yours is far better - and i'm not just saying that.

The story it was based on is far lovelier. But thank you just the same.
