ten arms of equal length this time. They may be a little short, but I had to compromise to keep the model simple.
I always overlay a sheet of aluminium foil over the reverse side of the paper, but now I knew there would be foil showing on the underside of the tailfins and peeeking through between some of the layers on the arms, so I glued another sheet of paper onto the foil to hide the shiny surface, but I used old glue which created an unnecessarily thick layer... Basically, it could've looked much better than this, but then it probably couldn't stand on its face like this, and I like that it can do that, the thickness adds strenghth.

What a cool model! This is great. Also, what a weird critter. I still haven't totally grasped what good it would do this animal to have that ridiculous cone in there. Maybe the structural support would be nice, but I've no clue why it's worthwhile to have such a heavy guard, or to have one so far away from your sensitive organs.

aparently, it has been discovered there might have been sexual dimorphism in these critters, and males had longer guards than females, although I am equally as puzzled as you by why they had this structure. on the other hand, they were about half way down the line between an ammonite and a cuttlefish, in terms of how extensive their support structure was...

Right. But then, I don't know what good half a shell does for a cephalopod. You get all the inconvenience of lugging a shell around combined with the vulnerability of having a small internal shell. Frankly I'm stumped.

But half a shell is half the added weiht if a full shell, evolution works in small increments, snakes didn't lose legs instantlz either and retained what were basicallyuseless stumps for a long time either, before losing them completely, well, almost. Constrictor snakes still have teeny tiny claws as the reminders of their hindlegs...

Yeah. And I guess these guys don't care if we think they make sense. And and, I guess the persistence of these guys in the fossil record suggests that the guards weren't debilitating to their fitness. Interesting puzzle to think about though. What I'd give to see one of these in real life!

I might even do actual tutorials, I have long been bothered by having an absolutely shitty youtube channel without content, this might be it. this is something I've thought about for a long time but never did anything with the idea. I have made my first efforts years ago, but they have recieved lots of hate, and yeah, those old videos are really bad, but the hate comes even today.
