Description
A few sketches for the cryptomantis. The head turned out to be pleasantly odd in my opinion, and the beak located on the chest only adds to that.
There are some variations in the shape, but I am pretty confident lower right is what I was aiming for. I included the others to give you better insight on the process, and to show that I am still not certain about the placement of the inhalation pores/spiracles, but they should definitely be somewhere around the shoulder, nowhere else, to provide a long-enough passage for the respiratory system terminating in the exhalation pore/spiracle between the second and third pair of legs
the crest is reminiscent of a corythosaurus, but I am thinking of turning it into asymetrical stick-like structures like those of empusas, but only in some species.
