That's awesome! Did you use cobwebs for the drawbridge chains?

nope, those are regular iron bars, they are only white like this because of the texture pack I am using

yeah it's not small it's not that spacious though, the cathedral in the back is taking up a lot of space at least it looks good there so I ain't even mad... XD

Then it's pretty accurate though. There wasn't a lot of room inside a castle....

I might upload some pictures of my current minecraft project once it's finished
(Which will take some time as it is huge)

well I can't wait to see what it is!

I was playing with texture packs lately but i'm having bad luck. I found one that has a realistic skybox with photographed clouds, but the wood is all too dark... makes me sad XD

I can give you some super obvious hints if you want...

So you want a realistic texture pack.... Hmmmm... Maybe you could use some shaders to further enhance the realism

PeteriDish In reply to juniorWoodchuck [2014-03-10 01:26:47 +0000 UTC]

well, I am not sure if realistic is the right word... more like rustic, not necessarily realistic. And I can live without clouds too, I just mentionned it because that was like 1 texture pack out of 20+ that I tried that had that nevew seen real clouds in minecraft XD

I was thinking about shaders too, but a shader doesn't fix miss-matched block colors/textures. I think my biggest problem is that either all the wood in general is too dark, or stone bricks are too bright while plain smooth stone is too Β dark in comparison, and the two don't look that good together in most texture packs. in default stone bricks blend nicely with smooth stone, that's why I used it, but now it seems I'll either have to replace all smoothstone with stone bricks and lose the detail of two blocks being used, or replace smooth stone with cobble... which probably won't look that great in default...

I found what I for a while thought is a nice texture pack, where the various stone blocks are close to each other, so the smooth stone doesn't create random dark patches on the walls between the bricks, but the logs are poorly done and oak wood planks/slabs/stairs are too bright and don't blend with anything... I didn't notice that until I built a house with oak roof and it's an eyesore, even though it looks nice in default XD

I need to look harder for a different texture pack or remove all smoothstone from the castle and replace it with something else... either way, more work ahead XD

Sounds like you’re falling into despair
I’d just stick with the default textures to save the troubleΒ

yeah well... but really what sucks is that I really want to use a non-default texture pack XD I found a few that are nice in most respect but there is always one thing about it that makes me hate it to no end... XD as I said. either the different woods don't blend in with each other too well and therefore they cannot be used together on a build, or smooth stone doesn't blend with stone bricks... XD it's always one or the other, I have yet to find one that has both - stones and woods - that I like the look of... XD

anyway... what a first world problem... XD

Yeah, you could make one of those memes:
"I don't like the look of the wood in this texture pack - I don't want to use the default textures"
...or something like that
