Description Sorry for the crappy pic, gonna edit it later.
I don't know why, but I have always had a thing for alien moles... I have got more ideas for other creatures that live in the ground, I am going to call them sandfish. They are going to be a rather diverse group too. More creatures are in the pipeline still, springalopes and ramhoppers, you are in for a treat coming soon!

Ah.

Looks like a mole cricket. I thought it was until now.

Thank you.

Well, I can't deny drawing inspiration from it, but it's supposed to be a fictional creature

I really like the specialization of ancestrally generalistic limbs shown here, great job! Is the tail/abdomen meant to be a decoy for the head (the 'split' down its middle makes me think so)?
Looking forward to more of your stuff!

yeah, \i still haven't decided whether the creature here should have the bones in the front fused and separate, I still need to figure out what will be the major differences between these two basic groups that I am thinking of, if the nose here is going to be a solid conical shape, then that will be reflected by the shape of the abdomen as well, these are very rough sketches still.

Looks a bit like a mole cricket, neat work here!

indeed it does, i thought it's a better inspiration than an actual mole to base the look of this creature on, but the shape will change as I refine it over time, this is just one of many possible variations

The resembelnce to fish is uncanny

well, these are not technically the "sandfish" I was talking about, those are supposed to be skink-like and/or amphisbaeniid-like "sandswimmers" who literally swim through sand by wiggling motions of their body, they could be descended from a common ancestor to this creature though!

Can those tentacles be held internally? They seem like they might get in the way when burrowing!

sure they can! the idea here is that the creature maintains a labyrinth of underground tunnels that are kept tidy, they are curled underneath/inside the "beak" when digging, and the creature uses them to detect prey by touch and smell and catch it, then bring it to the mouth which is on the chest between the forelegs.
