peterkopher — Crop circles solved

Description I took this unedited - except for cropping, and a 20% increase in both brightness and contrast, to enhance the clarity a little - photo at 3:04:22 am Wed. 5/24 as I was walking through the commuter parking lot at the Massapequa Long Island Railroad Station. The circular "thing?" in this picture did not appear in a similar picture taken of the same rabbit - which did not move even one iota - 16 seconds later, at 3:04:38am. Two people whom I've shown this to, including one who claims to be a witch, insist it is a photo of a spirit. Now, I'm by nature a skeptical, logical, analytical person and, while I do believe that there is something that happens to our consciousness, our energy (our soul?) when we pass on, I am not convinced "it", for lack of a better word, can be manifested visually. I did not see anything there by my naked eye, and it doesn't appear to be a reflection or something like that. So what do I think it is? I'm not sure. I jokingly called it a crop circle when I showed it to the barmaid at my local pub last night - and she almost dropped the camera into the barsink when I did - and no, I was stone cold sober the previous early am, having just returned from my job in Manhattan. I prefer to think that I've discovered the mysterious source of crop circles, i.e. KILLER RABBITS!

I'm posting copies of the two original, completely unadulterated images as scraps, as a reference.

After looking at the copies as scraps, the only possible logical, 'scientific' explanation that I can come up with is that it is somehow a reflection of the flash from the rabbits somewhat demonic-looking eye.

Even though I'm all about the invisible folks I would go with some kind of lens-flare phenomena before moving on to spirit-manifestations. I took the liberty of downloading the picture and will check it a little more closely. You'd be surprised what color-inversions on pictures like this can reveal.
Also, wasn't the rabbit in a Monty Python movie?

peterkopher In reply to Etherealopolis [2006-05-28 19:18:47 +0000 UTC]

Yes, the 'killer rabbit' from Monty Python and the Holy Grail - one of my all time favorites and one of only two I own on dvd. I think the circle is a reflection from the back of the rabbit's cornea: It's too perfectly circular and well defined to be anything else, I feel. If you look at the second shot of this rabbit - which did not move at all, a rabbits normal "freeze" reaction to potential danger - it's eye wasn't reflecting as strongly, there was no "crop circle" lol, indicating, to me at least, that it wasn't looking as directly at the camera as it had been when I took the first picture. My sister, when I tried to explain my belief (and consequently possibly invalidating her whole-hearted and blind faith in 'the spirit world') wrote only "whateva" in her IM reply.
I do not mind you downloading an image as long as, if the need arises, you properly credit me with appropriate copyright info, as I do - as you know - plan on making this (for now) hobby help support me in my rapidly approaching early (hopefully!) retirement.

I just sent you 2 e-mails concerning Bunny. The image is for keeping in our files, I doubt it would be needed for public use, and if it did, I'd ask! Hope your day is going well.

I would kinda think the rabbit's eye has a lot to do with it BTW, you've the most logical explanation so far.

Thanks! My day is going great...puttering around the apartment, not straying too far from my couch and laptop, getting alot of odds and ends done and relaxing too. Still need to buy some more memory online, take a bath and - eventually - cook some breakfast-for-dinner. May head to the pub again tonight: Katrina the bartender owes me a turkey on the rocks as I had reached my limit of three last night - and left as planned (after 4 am...I didnt get home from work until 3 am) - and as there are no 'buy-backs' until after 3 drinks, I 'put one in the bank' so to speak. Moderation is working for me...

That's me - Mr. Logical Libra

Glad to hear your day is working out well and that moderation is also. I had a real delight, my daughter cooked some chicken with a Florentine topping that was outta-yer-mind good - no junk food for me tonight!

Ahh, the days when I could cook up a crown rack of lamb MidEastern style, apricots and mint and thyme and pignolis, with fresh babganoush and homemade pita! Long gone for me; but my daughter inherited her mother's imagination and skills culinarily and has been exercising them on her boyfriend and myself for about four years now. Funny thing was, seven years ago she couldn't cook squat, she just got into it one day and has never looked back.

Yeah, I enjoy my own cooking, but there are so damn many time constraints on me I rarely have time....sob....not even my nuclear chili with the habenero peppers....sob,weep.....the kind that must be served in titanium bowls.....

I only recently learned how to cook 'squat'. The key is all in the preparation.
