Description This Red fox has been a resident of the Quogue, Long Island, N.Y. Refuge since July, 2002. His right front leg was wrapped in a fish net and was also fractured. In an attempt to escape he gnawed at the netting and his leg, further complicating the fracture.

We have foxes in the back garden - it astounds me they can leap 9 ft fences in a single bound and stare at you as if (they absolutely do) own the entire place Must get some IR film

He's beautiful. This photograph is so clear and sharp, it really does him justice. Artistically speaking, I love how he's centered like that, right between the metal and all, but from a different sort of artistic standpoint, it's almost kind of sad, to see one of nature's most beautiful creatures like that. That's just from one of those "OMG-deep-profound-mumbo-jumbo" points, though. He does look very content, and I'm glad he was able to find help when he was injured.

Thanks for the comments. That's one of the things that struck me the most - the incongruity of this beautiful, meant-to-be-living-in-the-wild animal existing "behind bars", if you will, through no fault of his own! At the very least there are some places, like this wildlife refuge - located very near to the hoity-toity Hamptons of Long Island - that exist solely for their protection!

...I've never put a mood in a comment before. That... really wasn't supposed to be there. Oh well.

Nice framing! What kind of camera are you shooting with?

The camera is about a 3 year old, 3.2 megapixel Canon Digital Elph, with only a 2x optical zoom: It's so small and compact that I carry it almost everywhere, yet it takes pretty good pictures - under the right conditions! Thanks for the comments.

If he's not content, he's at least existing in relatively comfortable conditions.
