Description
Concept of futuristic handgun.Name: Sergeant Apone.
Sergeant Apone was the squad leader of the team that went to investigate LV-426. Apone was far more liked and respected than his C.O, Lieutenant Gorman. During the first incursion into the atmospheric processor, he enforced Gorman's orders not to use pulse rifle and smartgun ammunition. Shortly after finding a still-alive cocooned colonist whose chest bursts to reveal an alien, Apone grabbed a flamethrower from Frost to incinerate it. Aliens ambushed the marines shortly after, and in the confusion while trying to communicate with his squad, he is grabbed by an alien. Apone's importance to the squad is shown in this scene, as the squad loses unit cohesion shortly after his capture, and Gorman freezes up. Hudson later points out that the readouts on the APC show he was not killed in the attack; thus, he was presumably impregnated by an alien and either died when the atmosphere processor exploded or from an alien fully gestating in his body.
This is speedwork. I did in during 2 sessions. Concept is simple. I Used some small parts from my earlier works. Others are modeled in hurry mode. Meshes are not the cleanest ones but for now it is enough. Basic textures grabbed over the model, rendered and shooted through photoshop. This picture is result. Dont ask me how it works. It is not standart projectiles model. Use your imagination
Made in program 3DS MAX and rendered engine is V-RAY.
Hope you like it and Tnx for comments if any. Bye PK.

As a weapon for the "Aliens" world of James Cameron's film, this gun does not fit all that well, IMO. The weapon is far too refined aesthetically and advanced-looking in it's build for the grounded old-tech motif set via the props of that fictional film world. While I'm always pleased with homage to that groundbreaking film, I don't feel this gun belongs among the established hardware.
Now that all that is out of the way, let's focus on why this handgun still looks amazing. It has the look of a weapon that could be part of the "Aliens" world if that film were made today. The gun has enough of the current-tech styling to feel grounded in realism while at the same time having that gun-metal green theme of the original film props. There is also a hint of futurism in some of the components and the overall method used to create this artwork lends itself to the sense the gun was built using future firearm production techniques allowing for a very symmetrical, masterfully fitted precision ballistic machine. It feels like a real firearm, looks slightly futuristic and yet still feels green-n-grunt. Not terribly unique, but expertly drawn and designed cleverly. The weapon also has enough original styling that it would be distinctive even if glimpsed only for a few seconds in some action sequence. Another overall win for your designs.

Hey. I was actually just imagining this style of handle on one of your katanas...
Otherwise, I like the rail look

It certainly could be a laser or directed energy weapon, but the pattern on the barrel implies to me it's a magnetic accelerator or 'rail-gun', sometimes called a 'gauss pistol'. ('Gauss' is a measure of magnetic induction.) So it may fire projectiles that are affected by a magnetic field (steel, maybe?) and accelerates them using a tunnel of electromagnets.

The trigger doesn't look right. And per the guy below me, is it supposed to be caseless?Β

As a long time watcher of peterku, it's probably a directed energy pistol. I think most of his pistols are DEW's.Β

The trigger should be a solid colt-style then, that tends to give away wether or not it's a DEW with fictional guns.Β

Very nice model, as always! You asked for critique so I'll say what I notice first: 1) To me the front to back stripe detail on the slide is somewhat unaesthetic.Β Some interruption to that detail would liven up the gun a bit. 2) The front end is very slim, which is at odds with pretty much everything in the Aliens universe. I think beefing it up would make it feel more like it could be carried by a Colonial Marine.

Well you do tend to favor large barrels and roughly rectangular guns, but that's not a bad thing, and in this case the design sort of warrants it since tech from the Aliens universe is very boxy and industrial (Prometheus nonsense aside).Β So in my opinion the barrel could extend further down the trigger guard.

actually I like designs (not only guns) Β from prometheus. Β I was looking forward to this film since they announced it. But during watching it in the cinema (begining was very good) since first 1 hour was gone I was one big WTF? Are they serious? I never understand how someone can invest 50-10 mil dollars into movie and totally kill it by stupid story, situations or ends...

The designs from Prometheus are very cool, but they're not from the Aliens universe.Β They're a visual retcon of something which didn't really need it.
