Do you have a video of how you made these? Like a speed modelling vid?

hi. no but anyway this one has no some extra advance modeling skills. it could be done in short time.

How is it this detailed? Normal maps and rendering only?

peterku In reply to ZahlenO [2016-09-28 06:36:07 +0000 UTC]

normal maps are on the grip to imitate plastic bumb surface. scratches I did in photoshop after renderings.

Ok: how many polygons did it take to get this level of detail? I'm confused how you got this level of detail.
How did you render this so realistically? is this just from the v-ray rendering? What does it look like with a standard render?

I render highpoly models. renders engine doing renders in same speed no matter if poly cound is 3.000 or 3.000.000. I dont use any hidden technique. if you want to lear vray just enter "vray tutorial"  in google and you will find a lot of help. for example this one: cg-india.com/Tutorials/V-Ray/3… . it is simple and informative.  I have always use only vray. as long as I am satisfy with it I dont need to make renders in other program. but you can try keyshot program. it is simple and quick...

To use a single bladed throwing knife it needs to be well-balanced, the missing material from the grip would probably take off too much weight making it unbalanced.

As for looks. pretty damn awesome, i'd replace my combat knife with that thing.

could be mate. I have no experience with throwing knifes. it is just idea. when you work in virtual 3D It could be repair easily

I love the stuff you do, looks great.
But i'm a fanatic with bladed weapons. (not an expert) so i had to share my thought

You wouldn't have specs for the 3D model?

I really like the design. The part where the grip is holed is most impressive. It's a good idea to put lesser weight into the grip.

Yeah, But it's kinda a bad thing for a throwing knife as well. First of all, it can't be too light. Throwing knives with a weight of around 200g are perfect to begin with. Lighter knives ("floaters") are hard to control and often bounce back from the target at random. For longer distances starting at 5m you can turn to heavier knives with around 250g or more. You will need quite some finger power and training to handle those, though.

Try it out: Take the throwing knife handle between your thumb and index finger, the blade points to the ground. Now make a jerk with your arm into some save direction. If the handle wobbles between your fingers, or the throwing knife even falls down, it is too heavy (perhaps some training can help).

Generally, heavy throwing knives are more stable in their flight. But by far not everybody has the strength needed to throw them accurately. I recommend starting with lighter throwing knives to develop the sensitiveness needed, a subsequent switch to heavier ones is real easy then.

No, just one of the many things to know, when designing any sort of weapon, whether it's a firearm or melee weapon. But you're more thing welcome to my gallery if you want to see my weapon design, friend.
