Description Recently I did  Alex (Alex ), Ahktar (Ahktar - concept of modern chopping blade ) and Yuki (Yuki ). Now I add another piece in same style - concept of futuristic/fantasy spear - Valkyrie

This one is modular. I wanted to make it light. Therefore I used those material and hollow bar. Front blade can be replaced  for any other with various shape and weight. To get proper distribution of weight I designed that round object at the bottom of blade. it is not only holding blade at the place but there is also mechanism for attaching steel blocks to increase/decrease weight in the front of the spear to get requried weight distribution. Like on the car when you balancing wheels by adding those small parts on the rim.

Bye

All work is mine. Work has been made in 3ds max + vray as rendering engine. Completed in Photoshop.  Picture is bigger to see details.

P.S.
I added Knife (Anansi - concept of modern knife  )
I added knife 2 -( Awha  )

So what do you think. Do you like it or not? tnx for comments if any. bye.

Overall

Vision

Originality

Technique

Impact

The overall shape and design of this spear is sound, however there is one major flaw in the distribution of weight. The hollow and vented haft I can understand and even applaud for a cut and thrust style spear head like this as it lessens the overall weight and increases mobility. However a spear like this has to build momentum to do any meaningful damage. With both the blade and haft vented as they are the spear is too light to strike with any kind of force. I would suggest venting only half of the haft and leaving the blade solid. The result would be slightly heavier on the blade end but stronger and more functional overall. Other than that I quite like it, the realism in your models always amazes me and your designs are always interesting so keep it up.

Hi. tnx for critic.  After watching few videos from this guy www.youtube.com/user/Skallagri… I learnt basic principles. Now I know that weight has to be in upper part to make momentum.

This one is modular. I wanted to make light. therefore I usedd those material and hollow bar. Like on the car when you balancing wheels by adding those small parts on rim, you know what I mean.

Two things. First, have you ever thought of doing a modern take on gungnir the spear of Odin? And second, if you wanted a light haft you can always use
a machined Ti frame and G10 or carbon fiber panels that are machined to fit in the frame, a lot of custom knife makers use this method.

depends on how well you can wield such weapons.
what weapons exactly are you trained in using?

Tanooki-John In reply to Phil-Mc [2017-10-25 09:25:47 +0000 UTC]

Well, i'm mainly used to wielding Swords, Staffs, and dagger based weaponry such as blades and sai daggers. I bet I could fair well with a spear and javelin. I tried a 3 section staff a few times, and that one takes some time.

Hm, seems fair enough for a mage like you.

but when when wielding swords, do you use one
or do you dual-wield like Catherine & myself?

I have experience with v-ray so no big deal to make righr setuo. very important is to have right setting for material. I do my own materials or I download them from here: www.vray-materials.de

On the first look I thought this staff is colapseable. Overall the shape looks creat and I love spears which have a bit mire to the head so can do more damage. But I'm not sure if it is a good idea to hollow the staff itself. Might bring you out of balance because of the weight loss.

peterku In reply to KaribuXY [2016-08-27 17:41:04 +0000 UTC]

yea it is question use or not use hollow bar. I wanted to make it thorougly from metal. and any metal bar would look just too heavy. I could also make it foldable but it is hollow as well.

GreyAreaRK1 [2016-06-18 01:05:01 +0000 UTC]

It looks great as a fantasy weapon, but as an actual weapon the blade seems a bit broad.  It wouldn't be effective against armoured opponents at any rate - you'd want it to be much pointier.  It's a bit more consistent with a halberd-type weapon.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

peterku In reply to GreyAreaRK1 [2016-06-20 06:21:32 +0000 UTC]

yea I also think in real life blade should be smaller to be effective.

I love the design, awesome blade...I love to use a bow staff.

I read some of the comments below......the only one thing about it, however cool design wise are the cavities in the handle could be an issue for use.
The ridges in handle would be great and offer wonderful grip support, the cavities may make the staff acceptably to hooking on clothing items or the environment.
Not sure of the implications it would have on the holds skin to in heavy combat.

They may help with the staff flexibility and weight, that would be a good trade off against timber while maintaining durability against swords...

Always pros an cons.

Oooh....would love to see something similar but with a serrated edge.

Lovely work as per usual.

tnx you mate I did that holes into staff just to show it is hollow. with present material is can be hollow without problem and in addition it can be modular. I mean that staff can be made out of segments and length can be modified.

A very cool idea to make and modular staff, can be split into screamer sticks that way too
