Description I recently went to the museum of Anthropology in Cambridge as it had been re-opened from being closed for refurbishing. I went there to just really look around and do some sketching then I started to really look at the Polynesian wood sculptures, masks etc. and I got actually quite intrigued. Anyway after a while just looking I decided to start drawing but instead of just drawing I exaggerated the features on the face of this one mask I did and it came out not bad at all.

I went home and after say two days came to the conclusion I should try and paint one of these suckers and this is the result.

Around 45 mins in Photoshop CS5

Yea the nose really did it for me too . I love the way the Polynesians make the noses so big, the Easter Island heads being a good example.

Thanks dude. I think I'll add more in the way of shading to this one later but at the time of submission I was like, meh it looks ok .

I have really enjoyed studying tribal art lately, epecailly African art as they seem to be more adventurous when exaggerating the human form.

You're very welcome. Ah yeah thats right, I've really enjoyed working with exaggeration too, I like to exaggerate my characters body shapes now and even working on the face too, its really fun and also create uniqueness within the physical appearances of characters

Indeed that is the case, just taking a full body photo and exaggerating it to make it into a animated character is nice to do.
