I absolutely fell in love with this dog. It was the first time for her in front of a camera and she was posing like a pro <3

Well she looks hard not to fall in love with C: and what a pro, it's a Gorgeous shot.

Do you do a bit of photography of dogs you haven't met, or is it mostly just dogs you know ? C:

I haven't met any of the dogs before (but I was shooting more than once with Sue and Elvis).

Ohh nice C: I would love to do something like that but I've gotta build up my confidence of talking to people hahah. So do people come to you for photos then ? C:

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Pfeffernase In reply to DAMMITSAMMYY [2015-03-13 07:29:39 +0000 UTC]

Haha, don't start talking about low confidence I am the shyest person I know. The days before my first shooting I was so super nervous and not able to sleep. Even now I'm nervous before every photoshooting.
It's hard for me to talk with strangers, but when I feel the weight of my camera in my hands it gets easier and after I took the first picture there is no nervousness left and I can act the fool to lighten up the situation

You just have to overcome yourself and do it Dog owners are nice people

So yes, mostly people contact me for photos and sometimes I contact them (when they own a rare breed or if I search for a special looking dog/cat/horse for a free project).

(Oh, and please excuse my english, I wasn't talking/writing in it for a long time and it may be a little bit rusty ^^)

oh really? hahah C: that's really cool, actually. And yeah, dog owners are nice people - and I suppose, since they obviously love dogs, you can just talk about dogs for the whole time and it's fine xD maybe I'll give it a shot... maybe with people I sorta know before complete strangers XD

Oh, nice! So you do photo shoots for people and such? And what about the "Free projects"? Are they just for fun? C: What do you do with your photos?

(...sorry about all the questions, I just find it interesting hahah ;D)

(and your English is actually great, so don't worry! C: )

Pfeffernase In reply to DAMMITSAMMYY [2015-03-14 13:11:17 +0000 UTC]

Well, dog owners love to talk about their dogs, camera owners love to talk about photography, so just feel free to ask me any question

I also started with people I know. I am more the horse person, so it all started with friends from the stable, later there were friends of friends,... And right now I do photoshootings as a subsidiary occupation (I hope this is the right phrase xD).
Free projects are... more experimental In my galery you can find my normal work but sometimes I need to "let it flow" and try out different things. Those shootings are for free, because I know most pet owners only want "normal" photos. Here are some of my last experiments:
flic.kr/p/qJGJJa
flic.kr/p/qTuAe2
flic.kr/p/qB1fgk
These photos show more of myself (uh, it's hard to explain this in german - even harder to do so in english ) - how I feel, how I see the world... Well, they are very personal I shoot them to express myself

All the other photos I shoot are sold to the pet owners, shown on my website and on facebook (and here of course) and once a year I print a best-of-book

oohh thanks hahah C: well I'm gonna ask you what camera you use - and I know that a camera doesn't make the photo, but it helps XD I'm using my brother's at the minute, so I'm in the market XD

Yes, I suppose I could start with the people you know and go from there - friends of friends, etcetera C: And that's really cool - so do you work at a stable, or go there often? C:

Those are really beautiful photos, just saying C: I know a lot of people prefer the "normal" photos, but I really love the ones like that - they do seem to capture more meaning, and more... emotion, I guess. And sometimes you need to do that hahah C: I completely understand <33

That's awesome - thank you so much for answering hahah. A best-of-book is a good idea - I'm going to do a calendar for my friend, and was thinking that was another path to follow.. C: Thanks again - it's just super interesting! XD

Ah, stop thanking me!
I think I enjoy this conversation just as much as you do.

I use a Nikon D600. And I totally agree with you, a good camera totally helps But I learned a lot about composing an Image and the technical aspects of photography with my first camera, a small Nikon D60.

Right now I'm not as often around horses as I wish to be. I'm totally addicted to horses since childhood. I took care of a nice gelding for the last four years but then his owner sold him - it broke my heart a little bit and I decided to take a break (until I can afford my own horse )

Thanks
These photos mean a lot to me as I said before, they show my way of seeing the world... And I wasn't quite sure if I should show them anyone 'cause I don't think I could deal with negativ critics

Ah, I also wanted to do a calendar-project this year but the final idea was missing and I think right now it would be a little late to start one (also the idea is still missing xD) maybe next year. I thought about shelter dogs or adopted animals with handicaps...

hahah but I need to thank you for the watch now! .... thank you!! XD

yeah I think I should start off simple before going all-out on the camera heh. But I'm learning with my brother's, and I'm definitely better than even a few months ago - though it's hard with dogs because they don't sit still heheh XD I just need to work out all the functions and stuff still, and what some of it means XD

Yeah I've always loved horses <33 we've never had any, and to be honest I used to be scared of them... Don't know if I still am XD But they're beautiful, and I've always wanted one C: and sorry to hear that <33 it's amazing how you can fall in love with an animal that's not even "yours", isn't it? C:

awwh, those negative critics just don't understand what you're trying to capture anyways. Like a lot of the time it's just gonna be you who knows, and that can be your little thing C: And like I said, I love those kinds of photos. I like the set-up photos, like the posed studio photos, but I really love the "in the moment" photos you know?

Shelter dogs would be adorable as a calendar <33 I know a lot are breed-specific, or puppies. You don't see many shelter dogsΒ C: I want to do Aussie dogs, which is super easy because every dog in Australia is techinically as Aussie dog, but more like capturing the... "Australianness" as well XD But the one for my friend, I think, will just be some of the photos I love C:

(loving this conversation, too C: thankies for not getting sick of meΒ ;D <33)

Okok, you are allowed to thank me for the watch xD I love your dog, such a cutie!

Which camera do you use?
If you find it hard to shoot dogs, try cats - they drive me crazy They only look good as long as I won't point my camera at them. As soon as I do so, they look stupid or just walk away xD (or they are hiding or feeling uncomfortable because of this big, black thing staring at them...)

I have to admit I fall in love way to easy with animals
But he was something special. Don't know, I think our characters were pretty similar... But well, in the end money counts and I wasn't able to afford him. At least he found a good new home as far as I know

Oh yes, I know And I totally agree with you - I also love these photos. Just like you I also like those posed photos and in every shooting I start with some "easy" poses (lay down here, sit here, let him run there,...). But I really, really want to capture the character, the dog/horse/cat as a whole... So not only the pet owner or people who know it recognise it but strangers too. Argh, hard to explain xD
In short: I want to capture (and create) emotions
Here in Germany you can find a certain style for pet photos - very sunny, very often backlighting, a nice bokeh and pretty saturated colours. Most of them just look the same or are interchangeably.
I don't want my pictures to be interchangeably I want to create something different, to find my own style, but it's hard Sometimes during a photosession there is this one photo - whilst pressing the shutterbutton I know "this is it, this is mine"... Sadly this happens rarely

I like your calender idea But I must admit I just have no idea what "Australianness" looks like xD Will you tell me more about it?

she is pretty adorable C: she's my little angel <333

well, I use my brother's Canon EOS 1100D ;D I'm still figuring it all out - which setting to use where, that kind of stuff. Not to mention the situation, and how to work the lighting and everything gosh. Plus I think I go overboard on the editing sometimes because I like it but it makes it look tacky, you know ;D I'm just sorta learning as I go C:

I suppose it's just too easy to fall in love with angels C: They're easier to get along with than people a lot of the time, and I think that counts for a lot XD I really hope your horse found a loving home <33 Years ago, one day this big black Labrador came out of nowhere to hang out at our place with our dog all day. She was beautiful, and kind, and every day she crossed the hills to come to us - even one time at night, pawing at the door to be let in. Her owner wouldn't even call anymore to ask if she was here, and just came toΒ pick her up when she got home, but her owner was not happy that Molly was coming to us. Eventually she moved and we just never saw Molly again. It's quite sad, really, that some people don't understand how much you can love an animal that's not yours.. C:

It is hard to explain, but I understand you - in my own way, I guess C: It's not so much about the dog (or whatever you're photography) but their energy and existence sometimes, and where they are. I know I don't get that often either, but it's great when I do - even if it's pretty dodgy with my skills XD

Okayyyyy, Australianness... hmmm XD Well, I guess when a lot of people think about Australia (even me) they picture the "outback" - the dry openness, the rugged landscape, the red sands and the sun and the sparse trees. And that's a lot of what Australia is like, but it's also got the oceans and the forests and the mountains and grasslands. Basically I just want to capture everything - focussing on the rugged beauty, and the sometimes harsh living conditions. All with Australian pups <33 I want to travel with my girl and do this C:

(wow long message, sorry ;D)

Oh, I think it is a nice camera to make a start in photography
I never used a Canon but friends told me they are absolutely satisfied (and as far as I know the autofocus is faster than the Nikon-focus).
I also learned most of the things I know right now by trying out (and failing and trying again,...) But I really love testing new ways of post processing or other shooting techniques.

Such a sad story
But yes, many people become very jealous if their animal is loving other people. But I think they have enough love for everyone who is nice to them. There is no need to be jealous...

Yes, I think you understood what I was trying to say
On Monday I was shooting this old horse, one eyed, meagre not very beautiful but he had such an engaging charisma - full of life and love and a little bit nosey and all I wanted was to capture this! I wanted the people to see that he isn't the most beautiful horse on this planet on the outside but on the inside... I will upload a pic later and I just hope that everyone can see "him" not only his missing eye or his years...

I have to admit I also think of red sands and much "nothingness" when I think about Australia
Your idea sounds great! I would love to see Australia through your eyes/photos (and somewhen I want to see it with my own eyes )

DAMMITSAMMYY In reply to Pfeffernase [2015-04-11 06:18:33 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I like Canons C: and absolutely agree with you - just gotta try things out. It's all trial and error really until you finally get the good shot ;D At the minute I'm really having fun trying to figure out the lighting side, and shooting with awesome lighting and everything... giving it a go! XD

you're so right. people do get jealous - especially if it's their animal, and therefore they believe the animal should love them and no one else. wise words of yours C:

I can't wait to see the picture ;D I love how you can find the beauty in anything really, even if it's not "beautiful" to the eye so much. keep up the awesome work! <33

hey, *I* think of red sands and nothingness when I think of Australia XD thank you! now I just need to get travelling - I'm gonna start with local stuff and see how I go C: (oh definitely - I know I live here, but it's a place to visit XD)
